Watching a loved one die.  | |  A year and a half ago, I stood by my husband as he watched his 86 year old mother dying. He had a hard time visiting her in the hospital the last few days because it was so hard to watch her suffer.
As I am writing this, my friend's father who is 91 is dying in the hospital. Yesterday he was lucid, but suffering. Today he is only semi conscious and in a lot of pain and they have started giving him morphine to make him more comfortable. The family has chosen to avoid "heroic" measures. Their father asked them to stop the treatments as they were making him worse instead of better. His wife, like my husband with his mother, has a hard time sitting with this man as he is dying. She says, "I hate to see him this way." As I watch him, I can recall clearly how it was when my mother in law died.
It is so hard to see a person you love dying, especially when they have been strong and vital right up to the last few days when they became sick. Even yesterday this man was lucid, but today he is confused and drowsy as the doctors try to make him more comfortable. It is so hard to make the decision to stop the "heroic" measures, and I watched my husband and my friend's family go through this decision. It is hard, but after you take the decision, it is easy to see from the peace on the dying person's face that you have done what they asked.
I'm so tired from the last few days. My friends must be way beyond tired as they spend every moment in the sitting room of the ICU, sitting, not really sleeping, waiting. This is the time, I suppose, when you pray for comfort and peace, because there is no hope of healing. I do believe God chooses the healing, even if the doctors try or stop trying. And God chooses the time of final rest. It's only in His hands.

It is hard to watch a loved one slip away. I have had many pass away over the years. The only thing that you can do is be there for the ones who have lost.

Death is no more than a change, for we are all spiritual beings in our true natures. We surely do not want to stay in these old bodies forever. Yes, I will truly miss the love of my life, but I will carry her with me in my soul to show the world who she was through my actions. She was a great influence on my life. I will love her forever. Take care of yourself. Try to get lots of rest. Things will get better with time.

| | 3.  jerimiyah (221) | 4 weeks ago |  when my grandfather died last march 1, 2004. i didnt feel about myself because i took care of him and almost had alot of sleepless nights. i even had alot of class absences just to be with him. when he finally died in the hospital, i was so weak and dipress. i wish it didnt happen but it did.

When she turned around to tell us to leave she came up to me and asked "Wheres Danny" we couldn't find him. We saerched for hours. The next day we got a call, a young couple had found a boys body wraped in a blanket under some leaves. It matched the discription. He had apparantly been blugened to death with a rock found next to the scene. We assume he had been kidnapped and murdered. Luckily there were no signs of sexual trauma. His clothes were still completely in tact. And other than the head trauma there were no bruises. The investigators believe that the kidnapper took the boy and probably tried to stop him from running so he hit him with the rock, not intending to kill him. When he saw the boy he probably got scared, wrapped his body up and ran. I guess it did make us feel a little better to hear the decective say "The murder was an accident" the guy who did it commit suicide in jail. | |
