Anyone use a modified rapid fire XBox controller?

I'm a new XBox 360 player and while I definitely spend too much time playing when I should be doing other things, it doesn't change the fact that I suck and lose like 9 times out of 10 when I'm playing online games with my friends (or with random strangers). I was trying to find strategies online because I figured "hey, I need to be able to compete with these people who have been playing for much longer" and I found some reference to modified controllers that have rapid fire settings added on ( http://www.evilcontrollers.com/ ). Has anyone used these before? Are they legit? Are they detectable? I don't want to get banned from playing online because I use a modified controller or anything. So for anyone who has used a modded XBox controller, what has your experience been? Thanks!
