Wisconsin college teaches Malawians to be better teachers!

I work at a small college where Malawian go to school. It all started in 1999 when the first group arrived! A professor at the college had visited Malawi in the mid-1990's. He saw the nation of 13 million located in southeast corner of Africa needed educators to teach the many children that are in the country! The children want to learn but didn't have the resourses! From teachers to books to schools! So this professor started a sholorship program to bring 5 teachers to Wisconsin to get degrees in teaching so they can go back in 3 years to teach more teachers to be better teachers! The US and Malawi have agreement to do this. The Maiawi goverment takes care of theses teachers families while they are gone. All are married and in their thirdies. The students go through tons of screening and medical testing before they are determined if they will get a scholarship to come hear! While here their goverment pays for everything but for books and clothes. I have worked with alot of Malawians students over the past 8 years! They are the hardest working people I have ever worked with! Malawi is the 8th poorest country in the world and the Malawians are very grateful for the oppurtunity for the education! It is a great program and it will go on for a long time! Malawians,thanks to fund raising and donations,have been able to build some new schools and getting alot of teaching material they didn't have before! I can't express how grateful to see this and the oppurtunity to work with some of this people! It is making a difference!
