Hot Pot

What sort of event is a "hotpot"?
This is something I dont think I have ever been invited to.

We have pot luck where our families will get together and every family has to bring a meal in a pot. That sound like a hot pot to me. They are a lot of fun and you can sometimes, well okay, you always leave stuffed.

When I'm invited to a pot luck (or a hot pot in your society) I like to make one of two things:

1) German potato salad, with boiled potatoes, onions, and a dressing made of olive oil, red wine vinegar, and a semi-sweet Chablis, with a little salt and pepper, and perhaps a little sugar.

2) Chicken and rolled egg dumplings, where I simmer the chicken for most of a day with onions and various bell peppers while I combine flour, egg, salt and pepper and roll into what I can only best describe as very thick noodles (1/4 inch or 0.6 cm approximately). The flour thickens the broth when I combine the two.

Be careful with the last one, small bones have a tendency to distribute themselves throughout the dish. I tried taking the bones out, but I never found an effective way to do that thoroughly.

Hotpot, that sounds really familiar to me. Is it a sort of Suki Yaki type where there is a pot and you can choose the types of meat/fish and vegetables and put them in a hot pot. While there are also various Dim Sums and Sushi's available? If it is that Hotpot then I'd advise you to bring an empty stomach since it's a Buffet.
