First of all, you have to learn and adjust to your new environment. Try to adopt the kind of lifestyle the people are living there. City life is different from rural/country life. One of the best ways to kill boredom in living a rural life is to make friends with the local folks. It is in someway very useful, helpful, and practical because sooner or later, such local folks are the people who you get in contact with in such place and maybe can help you in a very different ways. Other than that, talking and spending time with them can really help you kill boredom. Aside from that, try to keep yourself busy by doing something. Maybe it's something that you're already used to do such as your hobbies or maybe learn something new. Learn the way how people live in that area and adopt to it. There are a lot of interesting things to learn in country life which are alien to city life and in fact, they are more enjoyable. And lastly, make your stay there a very memorable one. Are there some landmarks in that place? Some spots worth visiting? Then take some time to plan and visit it. Take pictures of the place. Rural areas has a lot to offer but way too different from a city life. All you have to do is explore and learn it. It might be a little hard to adjust at first but later on, as soon as you already start making friends with some local folks, you'll find out that country life isn't that boring after all.

Hi there, I was always assigned in rural areas and I live in the city. During my assignments I was never bored. I had also done stints in rural areas for months meaning not returning home after four months because the place is very far and in another province.
What I and my co-worker did was to do things not related to work because work tends to be boring. So, we always had a swim because we were near the beach. We do picnics and befriended the youth for games like volleyball and badminton.
There was no TV even and we just sing with the accompaniment of a guitar during late nights watching the stars and hear the waves and other nocturnal sounds.
It's just a matter of adapting and adjusting and making changes in your concept of what life is all about in the area you are assigned.
