It is 4th November. The days in Delhi and surrounding areas are like a trailer for winters that are to follow. Nights are a bit cold, with minimum temperatures fluctuating from 14 to 18 Degree Celsius. Not so cold, yet one better keep a jacket or sweater ready. Of a greater prominence is the haze. Since air pollutants and Suspended particulate Matter(SPM) do not rise much in winters, they keep to a lower height and hence there is a kind of haze that we see in winters. It is more prominent during evening hours - after 3 P.M. I recall it used to be even hazier till nearly 9 years back. There was much more pollution in the air then. However, increased use of CNG did reduce the amount of air pollution. However, rapid growth in the number of private vehicles; especially since 2003 has again lead to an increase in air pollution and the haze is again more prominent. And it is here to stay at least till Mid February next year. What do you think? Regards -Ptrikha_2
