Can We Give President Obama 1000 Or More?

On Saturday, October 10, 2009, people here and there celebrated an event called Youth Outreach Day, a brainchild of Invisible Youth Network.
Some examples of events that took place on that day and/or during the surrounding days are:
A cook-out for street kids in San Diego that was not only fun for them and put food in their stomachs but, also, drew the attention of various people who offered to help--and even house--them.
A 19 year old man from Canada--along with several street youth--who made a run that raised enough money to split between several of the street kids of Toronto and Invisible Youth Network's headquarters in San Diego (where there are an estimated 4000 youth living outdoors year round after leaving unhealthy living conditions from as far away as the East Coast). As this was also Thanksgiving Weekend for Canadians, he took several street youth out for Thanksgiving dinner.
A middle-aged homemaker from Western Kentucky making and selling crafts to raise money for IYN. She also wrote a letter to President Obama about the problem of homeless youth.
An Indianapolis couple preparing sack lunches to hand out to homeless youth, along with pamphlets showing them where they could go to receive help.
Youth Outreach Day is a kind of grass roots movement that we hope will be recognized as an international event by the time that another second Saturday in October comes around, so we have drafted a petition that will be sent to President Obama as soon as if has a minimum of 1000 signatures.
Anybody interested in taking a look at this petition can go here:
http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/enact-youth-outreach-day
Hopefully, you will find it not only worth signing but, also, sharing with others.
What we want is for the second Saturday of every October to be officially recognized as Youth Outreach Day.
We aren't asking for another paid holiday. We're just asking that Youth Outreach Day becomes a recognized special day just like Valentine's Day, Groundhog Day, etc. so that activities will be planned for this occasion all over the world!
While what we actually want is for the children, teens, and young adults who are falling through society's cracks to be reached out to every single day of the year, Youth Outreach Day (or YO-Day, for short) would be a time when people from all over the world would be thinking about this need in a special way and simultaneously having fundraisers (e.g. thons, car washes, bake sales, concerts); activities for homeless and/or otherwise at-risk youth (e.g. cook-outs, job fairs, shopping sprees); and other worthwhile activities going on with the theme of Youth Outreach.
Here are some other links that might be of interest to you.
In the order of which they're presented, they are IYN's main website, my IYN-related blog, and an article I wrote about these young people who need us so much.

Do you believe that we can collect at least 1000 signatures to our petition?
Would you like to help us try?
Please share your thoughts below--and, again, don't forget to check out the provided links...

The concept seems good, but you are enouraging a demagogue who needs no encouragement. That is the trouble with people up here in Canada, they are so enamored of Obama that they think he is more then a man. I am sure that had McCain won, you would have written this letter and said The President of the United States and that lady would have written her letter asking for help in that matter.
Homelessness has been a problem for youth since the depression in the 30s and more like it before. Did you do the same petition with Bush or the former presidents?
Or do you that because Obama is in charge, he is liable to listen?
Besides there are many organizations that will help. You do not need the *great one! to help you out.

If President Bush had still been in office when it was time to send out the petition, he would have been the one to receive it--and, contrary to what some people might think, I believe he would have done what we're wanting President Obama to do now: Proclaim the second Saturday of every October as Youth Outreach Day.
I'm not from Canada, btw. I'm from Indiana, and I'm the Deputy Chairman of Public Relations at IYN along with being one of its founding members. At this time, our main headquarters is located in San Diego, California. However, we have people involved in our organization that are as far away as places such as England, Sri Lanka, and Australia.
Hopefully, our British staff member will be contacting Buckingham Palace and Parliament with the same request that we're sending to our President here in the USA.

No, the reason that we waited to approach President Obama on this was that we had just been tossing around the idea of Youth Outreach Day and weren't sure when we would be having it or just exactly what we would be doing. Now, we are, so it's an idea ready to be taken to our leader via petition.
We had been toying with several times of the year to have YO-Day. Besides the second Saturday in October, we had thought of having it in March, September, December, and even around the time of The Fourth Of July.
You don't go presenting something to The President (or anyone else of influence) until you have it defined.
Now it is, and President Obama just happens to be the one in office.

It is just that there has been so much praise of Obama that any petitions done to him are naturally suspect. I am sure that had it been done while Bush was the president, that he would have done what you asked, but there is a thing about timing. I do not know if you or one of your organization wanted to approach Bush and ask him to set aside a special day for the homeless youth and that you were told, "forget it, he won't do anything." I sort of suspect the latter.

Oh my God, at last an outstanding worthwhile cause, please accept my congratulations and Mucho Kudos to you and the organization.
I am going directly to your links and if possible I will definitely sign the petition and will, if I am allowed, pass it on and get you as many signitures as possible.
God bless you and all involved in this worthwhile endeavor!

Btw...1952 is also my birth year, and my birthday is December 12.
Here's something interesting:
Frank Sinatra was born on December 12, 1914 and passed away on May 14, 1998.
Russell T. Hartsaw--IYN's Founder and Chairman--was born on May 14, 1941.

Why, so we can give him another excuse to spend even more of our tax dollars and get even more controll over the youth of this country?
Tell me, what exactly is it you expect Obama to do for people of your country anyway? Last I checked, he was president of the united States, not the world, and his only obligation as far as I am concerned is to THIS country and the people who elected him.

Invisible Youth Network is a private organization and is in no way, shape, or form connected with President Obama.
Had John McCann been elected, we would be sending the same petition to him.
Go to the petition and read it carefully.
It isn't signing up President Obama to be a New World Order dictator.
All it says is that this petition is for him to sign. Perhaps, his signing will influence other countries to follow suit.
We will be contacting other elected officials as well, such as state governors, city mayors, town councils, etc.
We also plan on contacting greeting card/gift companies to put the bug in their ears to design products that will celebrate this event.

He's welcome to sign it like everybody else, but this is a petition TO President Obama so that he can officially declare the second Saturday of every October Youth Outreach Day.
We're also encouraging local elected officials to do this.
It's not going to affect our taxes or freedom any more than Groundhog Day, Valentine's Day, or St. Patrick's Day.
We hope, also, that leaders in other countries might also recognize this event with a proclamation.
There's a big difference between a proclamation and a law.
This is only being done to draw attention to the fact that too many of our youth are having problems that need to be addressed instead of being swept under the rug.
