It is tough keeping an independent music store open and this one is old school. Lots of vinyl records, all types of CD music, even sheet music!
How can he promote the business both in the regular sense and online? The business can use the help and I would sure appreciate your ideas.
Thanks for your time.

You just said it in your topic, INDIE! Sell music that is popular, but also sell music that is Indie. Your other problem, as you probably know this, is iTunes and the internet. People are buying less CDs and music because they are online listening to it and or they are downloading it. Sadly, the music industry is dying thanks to the internet. Personally, I rarely buy CDs anymore, why? I get my music online. I buy CDs and DVDs every once in a while. Also, I am more into reading these days. When I was a music major, I loved listening to music all of the time. Now that my major is English, I am lucky if I get one to two hours out of my day to hear music.

I would say that flyers are easy, cheap and directly in contact with people when they are placed into the right places, like metros, bus stops, you know, places where the possible clients go the more often. I would say that a website is vefry important, these days, many people trey to know about a hop by visiting his website. I would also propose you the idea of small posts in the news paper, it's not expensive and touches many people. Your goal is maninly to help your firned to be seen by as many people as possible. You need to be everwhere so people fro everywhere can know what this is all about. Good luck and don't forget, clear, simple, and nice. Tell people, don't make them search.

Well let's see...
You can print out flyers and post them in various places for a start.
Promote the shop through your online networking sites (friendster,FB, myspace, etc.)
You can open accounts under the name of the store. Example: Independent Music Store on Myspace, Friendster, FB
Then, if you can design online banners, put that on the profiles and ask your friends if they can support by placing links or banners in their profiles, too.
