What we are supposed to do is take care ourselves and our environment, we are the stewards of God's creation, if we won't take care of God's gift of nature and resources then the world will really a hell of a mess, just look on our fluctuating weather, global warming partly is caused by human inflicted activities.
So the common scenario is this: if we won't take care with our environment then the world will not only finished but so human beings. Good luck!
