Do you think schools should teach about drugs to children in kindergarten?

I think it might depend a lot on where you live. Inner city schools... or just areas that are a little rougher and more "prone" to evolve drug users... may be wise with starting that young. But for the most part, no. Not at all.

At 5 years old... if a child sees someone smoking a joint, to them, its a cigarette... no big deal. I don't know of any 5 year olds that are going to try it whether its a cigarette or a joint. I can't picture a 5 year old looking at a crack pipe or a heroin needle thinking it looks like a good idea.

I agree with you 100%...and if I were you... I think I'd ask the other moms at your school... and if they share your thoughts, or if they don't... speak with the principal and find out his or her reasoning behind it.

I agree with you. I think that is way to young and a waste of time because I believe its falling on deaf ears. What does a 4 to 6 year old know about drugs. I think the appropriate age to start talking to a child about drugs should be about eight to 10 years of age. Anything younger is crazy!

My son is going to kindergarten next year, and I would pull him right out of the school if they were teaching him about drugs! He is FIVE YEARS OLD. He knows NOTHING about drugs, I don't watch reality or fake cop shows in front of him in part to keep that kind of knowledge away from him! I do not live somewhere where there are people offering it on the street corners openly, and even if I did, at that age, he should be with ME anyway. He does NOT need to know.

I think a child needs to talk about/learn about drugs when they're old enough to possibly be confronted by a need to say no. Or if a child asks a question, then they are old enough for an honest answer---that is appropriate to the age level! That age might be different depending on where you live but it still should NOT be five or six years old! it is NOT where I live.
