12 pipers, 2 snares, 2 tom toms, and a bass drum all in a 1,500 Squarefoot (30 x 50) room full of people. That was Rememberence Day at the A.N.A.F today. It was beautiful, but our ears are ringing. I got the whole thing on video. When I have the disk full I'll put some of them up here. After we went to Second Cup where Mom was waiting, and we gave her her birhtday gift. Unfortunately she lost one of the sapphire earrings we got her for Mother's Day, but thanks to Bidz.com we were able to get her another pair. My step-dad has an earl pierced, so the remaining earring from the old set did not go to waste. Now we are back at home, but we're going back to the A.N.A.F at around 7:00 because the usual deejay is going to be back. He's the same guy who was there for Hallowe'en, and Octoberfest. I'm so glad Walker joined when he got up here. Mom was telling us about the Rememberence Day assembly in the school where she was working today. It's so nice that children are learning about the brave people who fought and died during past and present wars. What did everyone else do today for Nov. 11th?

I stayed at home and taught the kids, we talked about Veterans Day and what it means, they are still young (9 and 6) so they aren't exactly sure what it all means.

I have a great deal of respect for all veterans ,and I truly appreciate
their sacrifices. I just stayed home and celebrated with my family.

My family has always had a tremendous amount of respect and gratitude for those that have fought for our freedoms even when most of us tend to take those freedoms for granted. We currently have so many family members that are enlisted and one of my best friends is as well. On November 11th, I made sure that I contacted each and every one of those family members or friends and personally thanked them for their commitment and service. My Uncle was in the Marines during the Vietnam War when he was very young. He was over there for almost two years collectively (only came home for my grandfather's funeral in between) and he was only 19 when he came home to stay. I believe that he was very touched that I called him and thanked him personally and then each of my children talked to him afterwards and said their thanks as well. My son is currently in AFJROTC through school and is determined to join the military once he graduates. So, it was something special for him to give to a Veteran in return. For anyone that I could not call, I either sent them an e-mail or tracked them down through either MySpace or Facebook and sent them a message. My cousin who is currently in the Marines and deployed to Africa recently got married and his wife is a MP with the Air Force. I have not actually met her yet, but I still sent her a message through Facebook thanking her and welcoming her to the family as well. She thanked me in return for the sentiment.

Don't get me wrong, big events and memorials are a great way to show these Veterans how much we appreciate them, but sometimes people can't afford to create an event like that, but in those cases, the Veterans are every bit as touched by a simple thank you and a recognition of what they have and/or are accomplishing for you and your family, me and mine and everyone else that lives in this country that we call home. Now, if we could just get our government to improve the way we welcome and support our returning Veterans, we'll be on the right track.
