Cost of living will be more in New york when compared to other places in US?

Hi,
I just wanted to know whether cost of living would be more in New york when compared to other palces in US.People used to stay in near by cities like New Jersey and from there they will travel to New york it seems. Is this true?

Well ofcourse its costly, especially hotels if we are staying alone costs more.
