I adopted a dog on Sunday and couldn't be happier.
He's an 8 year old yellow Lab.
He's an amazing dog so far, he's getting better as the days go by, he wasn't very active where he was, but now he goes out for a walk 3-4 times a day, versus 2 times if he was lucky where he lived.
I guess I rescued him from a dull and boring life.
He even gets along with my cat, but he should, he lived with 2 of them.
I couldn't be happier now that I have a dog.

My cat is fine around the dog. He was raised with a dog although it's been a while since he has been around one. He pretty much ignores the dog now anyways.

Congrats on your new family member! I'm very envious.
I'd love a dog, but it wouldn't be a responsible choice right now, sadly with my bad health and our struggling finances. We'll get there one day though.
I'm a bit concerned about how our two cats will cope. They've never known any animals but each other and they're very spoiled! I have a "Cats for Dummies" book though that I think has some advice on the situation!

Congrats! I'm also a pretty new dog owner too. My parents never allowed us to have dogs and cats for pets when we were younger so I was always kind of jealous of my friends had them for pets. But I guess they had a change of heart or something because my dad went and got two chihuahuas this past April. The female is two years old and the other one just turned one. They're the cutest things and even my mom, who claimed in the beginning that she didn't want anything to do with them, love them. The previous owner couldn't look after them because they didn't have the time for them. But I'm glad for you. Dogs are wonderful pets to have. And it's a bonus that he gets along with your cats. It would be problematic otherwise.

congratulations to your new furry family member.good thing the cats didn't react violently over a new "family member".I wanted a dog,but my mom wouldn't let me.we have 4 cats, and my mom fears that our cats will leave if we take in a dog.I want a dog,and though I love our cats,I want a slobbering furball that will greet me when I come home.

He was amazing this morning, I took him to an off leash dog park and he loved it. He played with the other dogs like he was a puppy again, and even rolled around in the dirt.
I couldn't be happier with him.

I think it is absolutely wonderful that you adopted a grown-up dog. So many people want puppies, kittens, bunnies, and other baby animals, that they forget about the adults who also need homes. I too adopted an adult cat, a two-year-old, whom I've had for seven years now. He's the best pet in the world. Good for you for adopting an adult dog. They need homes too.

I've had him for 2 years now and he's still doing well. He has gotten older and is tired more often, but he's still doing fine.
