Do you use Benzoyl peroxide on your pimples?  

How have you learned about this product? My mom introduce this to me once when I had a pimple.

Benzoyl peroxide is the most popular acne treatment in the market today for its known effectiveness and efficiency to buy without asking for any prescription. Benzoyl peroxide works as a peeling agent. It clears out the pores and eliminates oiliness of the skin, thus reducing the formation of bacteria even on the skin surface.

It kills the bacteria and relieves the inflammation, however its strong irritant actually triggers acne and make it worse. Some of the side effects are burning, itching, peeling, dryness, swelling, blistering of the skin and redness which can lead to more serious allergic reactions such as rashes, severe dizziness and trouble in breathing.

The worst thing about benzoyl peroxide is its ability to increase and produce free radicals which we all know increases the risk of skin cancer. By stripping the skin of its natural protective layer, benzoyl peroxide makes us more defenseless to UV radiation and air pollution. Benzoyl peroxide delivers free radicals directly on our skin surface. Aggravated by sun exposure, the chemical weight from benzoyl peroxide can cause permanent damage to our skin and may eventually lead to skin cancer.
There have been no specific studies on humans or animals that show risk connections between benzoyl peroxide and pregnancy which means the risk is still unknown. The use of Benzoyl peroxide may or may not be harmful to an unborn baby. The question of its chemicals passes into breast milk remains unanswered. Likewise, the safety and effectiveness in children under 12 years old have not been established. Some doctors might say that it is okay to use minimal dose of benzoyl peroxide during pregnancy, but for me, it is safer to avoid using it at all.

Anyone who decides to use this product must not apply it together with tretinoin or any harsh skin care products for it could cause severe skin irritation. Like other astringent, avoid getting this medication in your mouth or eyes. If it does get into any of these areas, rinse immediately with water.

Furthermore, avoid prolonged sun exposure while using this medication, as it makes the treated area more sensitive to the sun. Never use benzoyl peroxide on sunburned, wind burned, dry, chapped, irritated, or broken skin. Its strong chemical may bleach hair and fabrics so avoid this product gets contact with your hair or clothing.
