That's the thing about technology it's forever changing and being updated. If you know something about computers then generally you can keep most of your system intact and just upgrade a few important parts. If you have a very old computer then it's more than likely that the motherboard is very old and will be incompatible with more up to date components. In my case, what I would do is buy a brand new motherboard and it's likely that this would last a long while. I would then just buy the maximum amount of memory that the motherboard could handle and a modern graphics card as well. If however you know nothing about computers then sadly you have to keep on buying a new system in order to keep up with the changing technology. I took a course in computer maintenance and installation a couple of years ago and so I do everything myself now. I won't ever buy a pc from a store again but I will now build pcs from scratch. Everything changes. Even computers get old and need to be replaced. I guess it still depends on the use of the computer and your purpose for it. You really don't have to always buy the latest every now and then. Five years is already good enough. It had already served its purpose for you and worth the money you have paid for it, right?
Technology is fast advancing and it's already a part of our everyday lives. Not everyone needs to cope up with it though. You just have to be practical and wise.
