I have just joined up to oDesk to find some work to earn some extra cash while I am a stay at home mom. I have been applying for jobs there but because I have never worked through oDesk before, I don't have a rating nor can I show my previous experience to a perspective employer. My question for you is how did you make your first lot of applications stand out from the rest in order to obtain your first lot of jobs on oDesk?

I'm also new at oDesk. A friend invited me to join the site. According to him, it's really frustrating in the beginning especially when you don't have any jobs yet. However, you can take their skill tests to improve your profile. You can also try lowering your rate per hour to attract potential buyers and get positive feedbacks from them to build your credibility.

Do you know what they consider a low hourly rate? I have put in $5.50 as my hourly rate coz I know if I was doing this in the real world, I would be getting at least triple that...I have done 1 skill test & looking for more to do

Oh, you might be surprised at how low the rate per hour of most of the oDesk beginners. The rates are as low as $1 or even less.
