should i have a piglet around my niece?

we just bought an 8week old piglet to raise for food, was this a stupid thing to do? are healthy pig carriers of swine flu or can people only get it from a sick pig? are we puttiong ourselves in danger to be in close contact with pig? we have a 2 years old niece in my house to stay, so i need info about this right away, i hope you all can help.
