I have just arrived from a badminton tournament of government agencies in our city. I was the only female participant for the badminton mixed doubles event, so there was no way that I could excuse myself for a game. I expected that our team would be eliminated in the first round (owing to my age and competing players 25 years or more my junior, hahaha) and then I go home and make my appointment with my daughter. I was really surprised and happy that we made it till the semi-finals round and on to the championship rounds, fighting for 3rd place. We lost and placed 4th, and it was good enough. I really didn't expect that we could go that far! Is it just a case of lack of self-confidence then we get ourselves surprised because we expected something bad? Life is really full of surprises, isn't it?

Oh yes, we don't really know what will happen within the day, maybe something positive or something negative. Nevertheless, we should always be ready and accept whatever it is. If its a problem, look for a solution, if its a good surprise, thank God and be happy.

Yes, what is important is that we have done our best in any situation that places us in. We should be ready to embrace whatever good results it produces. We should also be ready to accept what we don't like and strive to improve or change the same. We don't really know what happens in the future, be it the very near future of say, an hour. Everything happens because God allows it to happen.

Thanks a lot. What I saw coming was being eliminated in the first round as there were younger and skilled opponents. I really did not think we would be able to advance to the semi-finals then quarter finals rounds. Have a blessed day to you, too!

Surprises. Well, no, not really. Life is made out. Life is planned. From one decision to the next.
We can determine what kind of day we will have, depending on our thoughts and decisions in the past. Some might call this karma. But I don't like that term. I don't like the term karma because it is so permanent. Life is hazardous, but we should be able to as you put it "...turn bad expectations into good".
Yes, we can turn bad expectations into good. But here is a situation: You are going to a doctors office but you don't like the doctor. You are thinking, oh no, not another check up. How can you turn this into a good expectation if it is inevitable? Well, yes. You probably do want the checkup for whatever reason. But perhaps the way you act with her or him can be different. Because perhaps your perceptions ARE right, and you should stick up for yourself. Also, you don't have to go to that doctor, you can switch. This is an example of how to try and expect good when you expect bad.
Neat about the badminton. I don't play that. I played a little in highschool PE. Good you had fun!

You are right there. There are things that are inevitable and do not rely on events, happenings, circumstances or our own efforts. What you said was inevitable, it has to be that way, no matter what our efforts be. In the case of badminton, I really expected we would be eliminated right away because we didn't practice in the last week, had only 3 players on our team and I didn't expect my stamina to go till the last game. We were practically all to ourselves as we saw others coming in numbers while the non-players cheered for their team. Personally, coming out 4th, was a nice surprise for me. Thanks for sharing.
