If you like mysteries in general and you haven't played these games yet, you've missed out on a lot of things!!
Mystery case files series consists of five games that blend hidden object scenes with great puzzles. The first two games, are more of a warm-up for the next episodes. The first two are called Huntsville and Prime Suspects. In these games you have to search for a list of objects in some scenes and after you find them, solve a puzzle. They are a bit repetitive, but the multitude of objects and the fun graphics make them worth your while.
After these first 2, came an even better game : Ravenhurst. In this episode on MCF, besides the object searches you have to solve certain very peculiar mechanisms to unlock some levels in the Ravenhurst mansion. Each level ends with a puzzle made by paper scraps, pages of Emma's diary, the girl who's mystery you were send there to solve. The pages have the color of old paper and are written with sepia ink. This, plus the way the paper is litteraly torn makes the puzzles a bit more challenging like the ones in the first episodes. Also, unlike the first two, this episode has better graphics, better storyline and very interesting implications for the next episodes.
The forth episode, Madame Fate is even better, as the graphics are way better than any of the games in this series from before. This time you're asked to solve the mystery of a carnival manager, Madame Fate, who saw her future in the crystal ball and found out she will die at midnight. As you investigate each suspect, the story unveils strange implications. Also, the mechanisms you have to unlock in this game are far more complicated than the ones before. The carnival setting of the game is a big plus, bringing some color to the scenery.
The latest release of this game series, Return to Ravenhurst is my absolute all time favorite! It continues Emmas' story from Ravenhurst and relates with the Madame Fate episode in very strange ways. Its story and graphics are extraordinary and this time the game is extremly interactive. You don't have only fixed scenes anymore, but dynamic ones aswell. In the dynamic ones you move and look arround, find objects and figure out what to do with them. You have to move arround a lot and use your imagination to figure what and when to use. They didn't drop the hidden object themes, but they've upgraded it.Everytime you find the objects in a scene you are given an item to use ...somewhere.It's up to you to decide when and where. The mechanisms for opening the locked doors in the mansion are more interesting this time. Return to Ravenhurst is a delicious combination of hidden objects, puzzles and mystery, with a creepy atmosphere that gives you the chills. it's my favorite one of the series and has an amazing story.
I just found out from their official site that they are releasing a brand new game from this series on the 25th this month. I'm really looking foreward to this one, to see what it improves, what it brings new and how it aproches the thousand years old story of Dire Grove. A celtic story mentions this place as a special one where people dissapear. The game follows the story of a few students who visited the place and dissapeared.
So my questions to you , mylotters are :
Have you played any of these games? If so, what did you like about them and what did you dislike? What are your hopes for the new release, Dire Grove?

I have actually never heard of these games, but my husband and I both love mystery games. What platform are these games on? Or are they on a t.v.? It seems like a lot of fun, and I'd love to know more about them so if you could tell me where I might find then, I'd be appreciative. You've gone to an extent to tell us all about the great features of the series, and so I hope that a lot more people respond to this!
Welcome to Mylot, and have a wonderful day.

They are PC games, promoted by Big Fish Entertainment. They also have two additional games for nintendo consoles, but since I don't have one, I didn't try those. The 5 ones I was talking about are good old pc games, with no special requirements.Just log on to Big Fish and download them. You can still find them in their top 100 best games ever.
Thank you for your warm welcome and I would love if you could share some of the mystery games you like!

Thanks so much for the information on that. As for the games I play thus far it's just been games through myspace that I can't remember the names of, as well as good old clue, and now an Agatha Christie game entitled : And Then There Were None. This is on the Wii but I've sen a walkthrough for the PC so I assume it's also on the PC. I hope to get another one of Agatha Christie's games for Christmas. I haven't finished AND THEN THERE WERE NONE, so I can't highly recommend it but I am sure you can find out more about it online, I use gamefaqs.com for walkthrough's, so this site may be helpful to you in finding out if you'd like the game.
