How big is sports in your country?

I know some countries and some smaler states treat sports like football as a life or death issue. Other countries focus on garnering the medals in Olympics. How is sports treated where you come from? In Singapore, I guess everyone is pretty much into soccer. We have just recently sent teams to the Olympics even though they were foreign imports (table tennis). We are going to have a Sports Hub built up soon. But there is a delay now due to the recession. We might only be able to see our very own sports hub in 2014. A lot of people cannot wait.
