Are dreams real?

Have you ever had a dream, or maybe sequence of dreams, where you considered their reality? It seems like every so often I get the determination to write down my dreams...weeks later I might re-read my notes and wonder if maybe they were simply memories of things that had happened. Some of course are completely ridiculous and unrealistic, but then there are others than seem ....calm. Like the event could be possible or the conversation could have taken place. Has anyone else ever tried to write down their dreams in the middle of the night?
