How would you post/ship records?

I met an elderly gentleman through some friends & he has been de-cluttering the house he's lived in for I don't know how many years...anyway, he offered me his records as he didn't want them anymore (he'd already thrown out heaps) so I took them...I am going to go through the ones I want to keep & sell the rest on eBay as there are quite a few collectors items there but the music just isn't my thing...I have never sent a record in the post...besides lots of bubblewrap, what else do you do to send a record in the post?

I post delicate things every single day so I am pretty experienced when it comes to packing! I would place thick cardboard on either side of the record, making sure that it extends past the record cover by about an inch all round. Tape the cardboard closed around the record with packing tape and place it in a big enough plastic bag to keep any moisture out. An extra precaution would be to have a layer of bubble wrap as well as the cardboard. I send a lot of liquid in glass and I pack it in two layers of second hand bubble wrap, with a layer of cardboard around it. Then it gets packed it a box with shredded paper all around it!

Sorry for the delay in replying to your question. I have been away for 3 weeks and am slowly working my way through all the emails and Mylot discussions still. I get all of my bubble wrap form a kayak store here on the Gold Coast. They get every single new kayak wrapped in bubble wrap and they just throw it out, so I go by there whenever I am getting low and fill my car up with a few more months worth. I am sure there would be a kayak shop up your way. They always have loads of it and some times I get lots of it for the archery club that I belong to as well. It is handy for packing into the wool bales that the targets are placed on.

Thanks for the BR. Did you find any bubble wrap second hand yet?

We have special bubble wrap envelopes here in Canada, your post office will probably carry the same thing. They are great for sending CD's, maybe add a few rods of doweling or something to stop from bending in the post. On a different note, if you do a lot of selling of things on E-bay, be sure to put a nice thank you note, hand written is the most effective. And incentive to buy from you in other area's such as your website or what ever else you sell on ebay and what not. Cheers.
