There are alot of good farriors out! I was lucky to have him for 21 one years when my horse,Major, needed his hooves trimmed! He always left me a note after doing MAjor when his next vist would be! Ih knew what he was doing and once did I have to find out where he was! Alot of farrior's do horses and never say that they'll be back in 8 weeks! You HAVE to calll them! Like this week! A mare needed a shoe pulled and the farrior never mentioned he was going deerhunting! So the mare's owner had to find a different one! This guy always trims the horses,he does, to short and the horses hooves sore for a few days! Then I find out he knew the mare had a lameless problem on her right front leg! He shod her anyway! Then when the owner checked on her,she was really lame and the farrior didn't bother rasp down the nails! So Abby's,the mare, ower had to get another farrior come out and correct the problem! The shoe on the bad foot was pulled and it turns out there is an abcess! Abby is on stall rest and will her hoof soaked once a day in water with iodine! Farriors, some, just do their work and don't care about the horse! There are the ones who are just palin bad! Then there are the really good farriors! They care about your horse, take their time and will let know when They will be gone! I wish more farrior's were better!

farrier what's that? we hardly ever can get one. some just don't care, then you have others who don't look at the foot right and do it wrong that way. i don my horses feet my self, only trim them up when they need it. saves a hell of a lot of time. don't ask me to put a shoe on thou, tried and i can't do it.

Farriors are becoming harder and harder to find. There are people that can tack on shoes or file a nail but a farrior to do corrective shoeing is almost impossible to find. We have had 2 really good ones and the one we have now is ok but not the best. He was an apprentice under one of the really good ones we had. The problem is that when you find a really good farrior it is hard to keep them for especially on a small farm becuase they can go to a larger farm and do a full day's work and never have to move locations. Oh well I guess if you can find a good farrior then hold onto them as long as possible.
