Would you be a volunteer for drug trials and tests?

This is something that I have been looking into recently. I picked up a magazine and was flicking through the pages when I noticed an advert asking for volunteers who wanted to become involved with drug trials and tests. This particular advert was for people with asthma and well, I have asthma. I have applied for this and it will be the first time I have done something like this. They compensate you for your time and so forth and I like the idea of that. What do you think about clinical trials where you are the guinea pig as it were? Do you think it's safe? Are you a volunteer yourself with some agency? I had a conversation with one of the representatives and he reckons that caution is taken and that it's perfectly safe. What do you think? Andrew

I haven't heard of anything like that here and i am not aware if there is something like that here in my country. But what i would like to tell you is take caution too. Make sure that it is really safe for your asthma and that there will be no complications whatsoever. I really do hope that is it safe for your sake. Be careful my friend and take care.

Hello sweetie, I suppose this is a good idea although I have been having my reservations about doing it but I have decided now that I am going to go ahead with it. I received a call from a lady and she explained everything to me. They will carrying out these trials in the new year and I will receive an email to go down for an interview and then I will be given the opportunity to ask any questions I may have. I guess I will make the final decision then as regards whether I go through with it or not. I have heard some bad news in the past how some of these trials have gone seriously wrong but I'm not deterred by this. I think mainly that they go well and everything turns out fine. I will create another discussion afterwards giving information on how it went. Andrew

Hi Andrew, I'd be quite keen to do something like that. Of course with the proviso that nothing serious could go wrong and that in the event of the tests having a negative result I would be compensated for any discomfort or such.
If I had to sign an indemnity statement I would not proceed. But otherwise, I'm always open to things like this. Never had an opportunity to go for it though. Hope your experience is a positive one Andrew.

Hi, well I haven't decided whether I will do it yet but I'm going to be contacted in the New Year which is when they will be proceeding with next round of trials and then I will be called in for an interview. I will them fire all the questions I can think of at them! I don't like the idea of signing an indemnity statement either and if this is the case I may or may not proceed, I will have to think carefully about that one. If all goes well then the money can be quite beneficial. I will keep everyone informed I guess as to how it goes. Andrew

Good luck Andrew! I haven't been a part either but it seems quite really interesting to be a part of it. Being a 'guinea pig' could be fun, different, amusing and not-so-fun as well. Since I am amused by new stuffs I think I might participate. However, safety and no health hazards would be the foremost criteria. And if they compensate well - it would an incentive.

Yes, I thought that I would apply and they have accepted me on their database now! I will be receiving a callback on Monday and some lady is going to go through all the details with me. I guess there will always be a risk in anything you try that is new. Still, I'm attracted by the financial compensation, I could certainly do with a lot more of that right now! Thanks for your thoughts on this. Andrew
