Which time of the year?

I went to South Africa in January this year and it was summer time there but winter time back home. I think that it was the best time to go there. The airfares were high for Christmas but went back down in early January. When I did my trip to New Zealand I left home in the late autumn and returned home in the spring. So it was spring, summer and autumn in New Zealand. I traveled to the Cook Islands after they had experienced a cyclone. I visited Belize in November and they told me they had a cold spell. I laughed and wished they could try winter in my home country. Which time of the year is is best for traveling? Do you like winter trips to places where it is summer? How does it feel to travel across the world to have the seasons reversed?

If I am visiting beaches and sea shores then I prefer visiting them at winters but at summers I prefer mountains and hilly areas. I am from India and so you can imagine how hot it is out here. I try to avoid scorching heats always.

There are some very beautiful beaches in India like those around Kerala and Goa. I imagine that the summer is incredibly hot and so the winter is the best season to travel in. In the summer it must be lovely to go to the hills where it is cool.

I totally missed summer here in 97/98 when I left for the USA on the last day of spring. Being in the northern hemisphere for Christmas time was amazing as experiencing a white Christmas was something totally new to me. The places that I lived over there and travelled to were amazing, but I would love to see some of them in summer or late spring as we were limited in some of our travels due to large amounts of snow in some places such as Seqouia National Park and Yosemite National Park. But seeing the Grand Canyon with snow on it was amazing and it was also good to be there when it was not too hot!

my friend has just left for south africa! it's a month before jan, so a month before the time you went last year. it's supposed to be nice and summery now. they were deciding between going to south africa or maldives. i suggested that they should go to south africa cos there's so much more to do and see! i used to like travelling but after having to do a lot of it for work, I'm quite happy to be home where friends and family are. and i really don't enjoy long plane trips. maybe when they make plane trips much faster and we can shorten travel times by half I'd enjoy travelling more!

I like travelling in the winter better, myself. I used to like travelling in the sumer better but it was because it was the only time I could go. The reason why I like travelling in the winter better is because in the summer, you have to put up with children crying and acting up at different restaurants where you go. Don't get me wrong. I love children but I don't have any, myself, and people who don't have any children don't know how to cope with them. I've done a lot of travelling in my lifetime but I don't think I've ever experienced having the seasons reversed. I have experienced jet lag, though, in which I have travelled to different time zones and so much change of weather. I was with a tour group and several of us got sick. I still enjoyed the trip, though. Kathy.

Hello there Kathy. Yes, the long summer holiday is the ideal time to travel time wise but many destinations are crowded. School age children in my home country can only go traveling in the school holidays. Much of Europe in August is hot and packed with children. I have a toddler son and a baby daughter and often they are the only kids staying in the guest house. The look I got from fellow passengers when I boarded the plane was terrible. However arriving twelve hours later they praised my toddler son's behavior. I am sorry to hear that several of your tour group got sick. Jet lag can be unpleasant and the first time I went to California I went to bed at 8pm and woke up at 4am. Maxine

I'm glad to hear that your children are well behaved. That is so good. Yes, I remember most of Europe was hot during the summer. When my parents and I went in 1973, it was cold in London and that was in June. Italy, France, and Germany were very hot! I don't remember it being very hot in Switzerland. I told one of the mylotters here lately (I don't remember if it was you or who) that we went up on top of one of the Alps and it was 10 degrees below zero up there! Kathy.

I like traveling in summer becuase I am so lazzy that I hate washing those clothes for winter which are pretty difficult to wash by hand(I prefer to wash clothes by hand). In summer this is not concern. I can go to enjoy myself without having to worry about the laundry. So I prefer my destination to be summer. On the other hand, I hate freezing weathing because my hands and toes always get hurt due to coldness. So cold weather will definitely ruin my leisure time.
