How does alchoholism affect you?

Do you know anyone that struggles with alchohol addiction? or do you struggle yourself? My dad was an alchoholic, and caused a lot of chaos in the household when I was growing up. My family was never really poor, but ha cause a lot of financial issues that ultimately lead to my parents divorce. I'm 19, now and I think I've inherited the addiction "gene." I stay away from drinking and drugs, but I do struggle with obsessing over things and depression. My dad never got serious about getting sober, and now he's destitue and alone, living with his brother.
