Have you learned the art of cracking an egg? |
| |
| Yesterday morning I decided that I wanted to fry an egg for my breakfast .So I looked in the tray for the biggest egg and stood over the bowl I had prepared for it ,got a knife and with the most skill I could muster came down ,wham. But with all of that surgical accuracy and skill the results were the same as I had gotten a million time before the shell cracked ackwardly and unevenly and I even gotten some splatter onto the counter. For the life of me I cant seem to find the formula for cracking the egg perfectly into two halves . Do you have the same problem when cracking an egg? | | | | | |

| | Gently tap/crack the egg with available kitchen items and open it with your fingers on the pan. You dont need to worry about cracking the eggs evenly, while making boiled eggs. | | | | | | |

| | Lol. I don't actually see the need for a knife. :D I also have not perfected the art of cracking an egg so I ended up having my own style. Since I can't do the tap-to-crack-then-split-in-half method, I just use a fork (or my finger) to create a hole on the wider edge of the egg (the wider edge is the part were the air space is located hehehe). Then I slowly widen the hole so the yolk doesn't break when I transfer everything on a container. Once all the stuff is transfered, I now have an eggshell with just a small hole on it. I just tell my mom that she can use it to put to her plants when in fact I am just afraid of doing the general method of cracking the egg because heaven knows how many eggs have i trached because of my lack of skill to do so.. :D | | | | | | |

| | hi ronnyb, i think there is no problem with what have you done when cracking an egg, because what you did? is also the same traditional style of others regarding tips on cracking eggs if to cook fry.. the only thing you must remember is that, when cracking an egg, it must be in a tap style which i mean not too hard that almost you can break all the shell for it will be clumsy wise and the shell will combine with the yolk too. some use, the long neck of a fork/spoon or tip of those items to tap the eggshell to make a crack then pull both sides toward the middle to open the whole shell and be ready for frying, others use, in the edge of the pan where in they will tap the egg there to directly fry and it will easily capture the yolk when the egg was opened. so when cracking eggshell many times, you can master the estimated style of tapping the eggs and consistency of opening an eggshell.. try these tips if you want then compare them that will best suit your preferred style in cracking an egg.. good luck and happy cracking.. | | | | | | |

| | I have never used a knife to crack and egg. I simply do what the others have said. Gently tap it on the corner of the pan or counter. No need to make the crack prefect as long as there is no shell in your egg. | | | | | | |

| | Actually, cracking an egg is simple - all you need is one hand, the edge of a bowl and of course, lots of practice!! -Pick up an egg, make sure your fingers are curled around it (there should be a good gap between your thumb and the other fingers, though) - Crack the egg against the side of the bowl (This is where the practice part comes in, the force has to be exactly right. Too much and you end up with a shattered egg dripping in your palm, too less, and you have nasty little bits of shell when you finally get the contents into the bowl) Make sure that the point of contact on the egg is the gap mentioned in the previous step. - If you have cracked the egg correctly, the shell should have a nice big crack in it use your thumb to hold one half of the shell, the rest of your fingers for the other half - and just separate the two halves INTO the bowl. That's it - how many eggs you kill before getting it right depends on your dexterity - I would put the average Joe's kills at 10 before he gets it right. Hope this was helpful. | | | | | | |

| | Well, that's a new technique to me! I actually use one hand to crack an egg. I used to work in a restaurant making breakfast and I was able to crack one in each hand at the same time. Now I can only do it with my right hand. OK, so, holding the egg gently but firmly in your hand, tap it with a little force on the side of the bowl/pan/countertop. Then hold the egg in both hangs and insert your thumbs into the crack. Gently pull it apart. This works great. After a while, you can try with one hand. Instead of using your thumbs, hold the tapped egg in your palm with the crack facing outward. Use your index and 2nd fingers to pull the egg apart while your ring and pinky fingers pull it downward. Good luck! | | | | | | |
