hi 'arunkrishnan005'. Well if Mahatma Gandhi was behind our freedom then why many Indians admire Bhagat Singh, Subhas Chandra Bose, Chandra Sekhar Azad and others freedom fighters? But then why Gandhi is called Mahatma and why his statues are outside India also and no other freedom fighter is given such honor? Because at that time every patriotic person gave his hand for freedom but the difference occurs in the extent of their contribution. Saying that only because of Mahatma Gandhi we are free today is definitely wrong. But his contributions was surely maximum. He did most work for this country and in the right path. If you will see history you will get to know that Britishers was mostly troubled by Mahatma Gandhi and not by any other. They couldn't even harm Gandhi because of his power and prestige among Indians. Whole of the population was behind Gandhi only. Mostly all Indians acted upon the guidelines of Gandhi. But this was not the case with others. They fought in small group and caused less trouble for Britisher than Gandhi did. Well the freedom was really the effort of all the leaders but Gandhi's contributions was the most. That is why he is considered as MAHATMA today and he showed the whole world the path of truth, honesty and non-violence. he was definitely the greatest man born in our land.
