Charlie Weis is finally out as Notre Dame headcoach, and I must say it's about time! Throughout his time he has produced a high powered offense that has no defense to back it up. Offensive production is so much more easier to create than a solid defense that is stingy and doesn't allow the big plays. Notre Dame once again was suppose to maybe lose a max of two games this year and be at least in contention for a BCS Bowl game. Instead another season of disappointment. Charlie Weis breaks even with a 6 and 6 record and has finally gotten fired. He had the chances to save his job. A USC team starting a freshman quarterback and they lost. A Stanford team with a 7 point 4th quarter lead which was blown. Not to much horrible loses to Connecticut team who was devastated by the lose of a teammate and a navy team who shouldn't have stood a chance. Weis did his job by keeping it close against USC and probably could have saved his job with a 9-3 record had he taken care of the easy wins. Don't get me wrong a high powered offense is great, but without a defense to back it up the power offense doesn't mean anything. A power offense can be stopped by an above average defense. They have seen the story all year. The defense lost Weis his job and he should have done a better job focusing on the defense rather than an offense that was going to be productive. Maybe a new scheme would have been a better fit, but now we will never know since he is out.
To me there is only one guy I want coaching Notre Dame football....JON GRUDEN. The guy knows how to win and has the defensive mind that Notre Dame definitly needs. He has a superbowl under his belt with a team that dominated defensively and is still one of the best defenses ever to be on an NFL field. This guy knows Notre Dame football and would lead them into the elite class they haven't been in a while.
Who do you think should be the new football coach of Notre Dame? Do you think Weis should have had another opportunity to prove himself or was enough enough?
