She Declared "Martial Law" After All..  email this discussion to a friend?

Hello lotters,

This country once faced the most terrible declaration that was declared by another president almost three decades ago and it cost the lives of a lot of people, most specially the media. after the most proud "Edsa Revolution" the FIlipino declared "NEVER AGAIN" and we almost live happily ever after.lol.

Oh, really? glareso, what's THIS? the out going and possible incoming congresswoman Gloria Arroyo has finally declared, and finally we have Martial Law again..but only in Maguindanao, Mindanao Island,Philippines. the difference now is that it is short for only sixty days. but critics claimed it's an over-kill and there will be a joint session of Congress and Senate on december 08 regarding this declaration.

Although i am admire that with this action too by the Government as they said that it will hasten the process in stripping the ampatuans of their power, most specially when the combined military & police force raid and found more arms, bullets and armored vehicles in the Ampatuans house; All of this would have been avoided If Teodoro listened to a warning that was issued by a Governor in Mindanao, he told Gilbert Teodoro about this possible violence in the province a couple of months ago, and it was said that it was ignored and barely done much action. oh, yeah there's no actual proof but i saw it in one of pinaywatch user's videos, check it there. but still teodoro is the secretary of defense and this is an issue he needs to clarify.

Any views still on this issue even though it's been spread already in another topic.

hello else-mariesad,

sadhe should have never supported her in the first place and now she has a one big head on her shoulders to bear for making such irresponsible decision in her presidency.it's still her fault because she give the ampatuans power that led them to be abusive, of course, she owe it to them for manipulating the elections.sad

hi letran,
I live in Maguindanao within the city those it brought a lot of criticism and arguments with local leaders. Even the religious leaders think that the government is declaring war against the Moro and some islamic fundamentalist have highly contradict the decision of the government. Their are lot of gossip around here which say that the government declaration of martial law angered a lot of people as the motive behind is clearly political that is to make a further media frenzy. though, they found a lot of armaments tools is not a valid reasons to declare the whole province under martial law as if they only have to target the Ampatuan clan the whole region should be spared and let those culprit in the massacre be controll as it only brings chaotic condition getting worst with a lot of people getting panic, imagine the military would take over with the local government power frozen. This may often lead to abuses which is very fearful scenario and i hope it would not happen as it is only intended for a shorter period. The government is cleansing their image as they have politician which need a lot of publicity getting the favor of the public they need a lot of good publicity to let their candidates rose to fame despite of the negative publicity from their own negligence to assess the current situation.

I agree with what you've said that the region (Maguindanao) must be SPARED! Yes, it may be that the Ampatuans are the warlords of that province but do rebellion exists there (if only their proof was the buried military weapons), is there really a heinous crime reported after the massacre. They (the Ampatuans) maybe powerful, but as you could see and watch on the news they are still human... they are now brought to the custody of the military man for investigations. Could this be all the reason for declaring Marshall law at that area?!!!!

How about those innocent kids, the civilians those Muslims who as this moment their culture and religion were being misjudged! Can the government repay and restore the trauma that this may cause to the common people there. I didn't see any valid reason for declaring marshall law! Does this only mean that this is the only way that the government and madam president could do! They, keep repeating on tv that the main reason was to hasten the process of finding those suspects for the killings but thus the police and the army can't find the culprits on their own provided that the armies deployed at that area are running into thousands compared just to hundreds of crime doers. Besides the Ampatuans then are under the WRIT of Amparo.

Somehow, I am still hoping that justice and the right will prevail. Justice be given to the victims of the massacre. And that I am strongly praying that there will be no more abuse of power! Especially now, that Marshall Law gives a strong power to these government military man.

glarehello neelia,

I don't quite get it really, we have NPA and Abusayaff here, not to mention the MILF are still around and some of them are siding with the terrorist, but how come there's no martial law on that problem?

cryIsn't the MILF,MNLF, and the NPA already a sign of rebellion, having an army of their own and destroying villagers house and innocent lives? they have been rebelling for what? decades? and yet there's no major progress to have them taken down. and yet with the ampatuans, they just declared "Martial Law"?

well, i do agree they're cleaning up the mess that either they started or simply ignored because of their arrogance.angry

hi letran,
Yeah, you're right and this decision of Pres.Arroyo clearly violated the constitution as martial law should only be implemented with direct rebellion to the government and with the latest updates of the events it even explain the fact that the weapons confiscated is even given by the government to the Ampatuans when they support the war against MILF as their own stock for use in their own protection. Aside, from the Ampatuans their are hundreds of politicians with their own private armies which need to be trampled down as the other target if they really like to eradicate the violence against the rival politicians. The only call is to caught the culprit of the bloody massacre of the 57 innocent media and civilians who are included in the massacres as their blood in the soil is still crying for justice..

I do sympathize with the innocent victims and i really feel the pain and anguish which their family have to undergo with this Christmas season, their is some beloved which they would surely miss gone in a short time due to violence which even the victims itself could not understand what fall on them which this merciless killing I do hope karma would soon befall on those mastermind...

I know that the martial law was terrible and the Maguindanao massacre is also terrible. These two happened in the Philippines because of political greed. I don't want to be bias or something as much as possible I want to be more neutral in giving out my opinion. I can't say that the declaration is good or bad for me whoever was the mastermind of those killings should be punished. We the Filipinos are the one to usually suffer the consequences brought about by greedy politicians. The best president for me still is Marcos if only he didn't succumb to the greediness of his cronies then everything would be better

sadhello hexe,

What ever the consequences of this Martial Law, it is always the poor people that suffers the most. i mean, the children can't get a decent education and the adult ones can't get a decent job with more people out of business and now this, but at least they have each other. i feel pity for these people that didn't have the education that they deservesadsad

I think opposers of Martial law have a point on their say on this issue. Anyways, according to the constitution, Martial law only lasts for 60 days. I also hope that the congress will really discuss if it will reject it or agree with GMA's reasons.

myLot reputation of 97/100. LetranKnight25 (11773)   ranked 8 out of 3,627 in philippines  3 years ago

happyhello ray,

Well, i hope it just last for sixty days, i am sure the congress might have find a concrete solution to this but i don't trust since most of them are ADministration Allies. i watch tv now and it's a good thing that senators opposed this and even shortened the number of days to half in the Martial Law decalration.happythumbup

this is really really bad for every one there, i think this is the only way to bring down a very powerful family in that region. my gosh, this reminds me a bit of northh korea, trouble there is that no one can opposed the government. we are basically slaves there for sure.am glad my immigration papers here are working well.

happyhello nobody4me,

I completely agree with you, but you're lucky that you're lucky in living here in Luzon and not in Mindanao, it's really chaotic in some parts that island. well, we are going to assure here that freedom and liberty will always be preserved here and will not happen again in this whole countryhappyhappy

It's an over kill if you ask me but that is what the government needs to do. I think the government did the right thing because the ampatuans has rooted themselves deeply in this province and going against them is like going against a wall. They have to be taken away from their positions and considering how rich these guys have become and the guns and ammunitions confiscated i think they're capable of declaring war against the military. If what you are saying against Teodoro is true then the more i agree with the declaration since it will avoid further bloodshed. It may be a little too harsh for martial law to be declared but i think its the only solution. I don't think the ampatuans will surrender themselves without a fight especially if it just a small scale arrest. So far no one died with the declaration of martial law. I think this is what mindanao needs, to be dealt with with all of the military's might less than that can be easily repelled by the private armies that abound in this place. Cheers!

sadthat's right ybong,

there is no doubt this is an overkill and the charges were rebellion, where it was supposed to be murdered, noted by satur ocampo. such charge is weak and there is a possibility that they might even released due to not so strong charge in this manner.

they should do this too in areas with NPA or abusayaff presence if they can declare Martial Law all this time. i mean, WOW! i hope they do this fast because the whole world is watching this terrible news.sadsad

myLot reputation of 91/100. ybong007 (4482)   ranked 2 out of 3,627 in philippines  3 years ago

That a good idea, if they can declare martial law in maguindao where the enemy is just the ampatuan family why don't they declare martial law in basilan as well? I think that's where martial law is needed the most because we're dealing with ruthless terrorists. Cheers!
