Are Cellphone Covers A Conspiracy?

I am not sure about you but I am assuming most cellphone owners like me will always be debating if our handsets really need that special protection covers like hard plastic sliders, striped cotton iPod socks, textured skins, scratch-proof films, titanium jackets, branded silicone covers, precision-stitched folios, phone wallets made of fine Italian leather and etc.. Of late, I am just getting a little peeved and worked up trying to decide the most suitable cover for my latest cellphone which is the Apple iphone by the way. Now, as you all know, this is basically a touchscreen phone and I just cannot find any suitable cover that will give it protection from being scratched and not affect the appearance of the phone. Yet, I must say and really wonder why the makers did not consider the materials to use for the phones so that users like us need not fret and worry about getting the phone scratched or cracked up easily. Instead, we have to get these additional protective covers and affect the overall appearance and handling of the phone. I just find these covers an inconvenience than anything else, yet I seem to be helpless and not be able to do without them when I need protection for that shiny polished surface of the sides and back cover. So, why should we be buying these covers when the phone manufacturers should have done a better job with the selection of materials for the phone to be self sufficient? Yet, disappointingly we find ourselves ever looking and deciding on these array of covers, which never seem to be behind all the latest makes and designs. Once each new model comes into the market, you can be assured that these covers will just appear at the same time? I am just beginning to wonder if there's really a conspiracy between these two manufacturers. What do you think?

Well, you probably don't need the covers. But I bet that it makes your cell phones very nice! I myself don't have one. I go for the distinct purple color. I really don't think it needs any extra protection. If you are careful. But I guess it makes them look pretty.

Apple3Cranberry, I am sure if you do not mind letting that new shiny surfaced phone appearing after an episode with effects from your handbag or pockets then, I suppose that will be fine. I just do not believe that the makers are unaware of our lifestyle and ignorant to how we as end users would scratch the phone and affect both its appearance and performance. I just cannot help feeling that there is a conspiracy between the phone and protection cover makers at the end of the day.

maybe you really need protection if the i-phone without knowing the screen was touched by a sharp object. The manufacture is doesn't care as long their product place in top market, but I think your idea is right. We don't need buying the cover for protect i-phone from scratch, if they already put in the i-phone.

May2k8, I really need to protect the phone on 2 counts. The first being the touchscreen where fortunately is just a plastic film over it which does not let the phone appear different from its original design. However, to prevent it from scratches is the biggest problem, where not only does it make the phone unattractive, it affects the handling as well. Even for other cellphones, once you put these covers, the appearance will be different. Maybe I can accept the appearance but I just cannot get over the handling, if you know what I mean. This is just frustrating. Even if cost is a consideration to have better quality materials for their covers, how much more can it affect the cost of the cellphone when there is enough demand out there in the market. These protection covers just does not do justice to both the designs and end users' handling. Anyway, thanks for dropping by and compliments of the season.
