Alex Gonzalez To The Blue Jays, Should The Red Sox Have Kept Him?  email this discussion to a friend?

I know this isn't new news but I had wrote about it and forgot to post it before. I'm quite shocked that the Boston Red Sox didn't resign Short Stop Alex Gonzalez. Gonzalez, who is 32 signed a 1 year deal with the Toronto Blue Jays worth 2.75 million, and option of the 2011 season worth 2.5 million. It's fairly certain that Gonzalez will be the replacement at Short Stop for the Jays since Marcos Scutato is said to be leaving as a free agent. This is a great pickup in my eyes for the Blue Jays but a bad move by the Boston Red Sox not to resign him for next season or multiple seasons.

Alex was traded by the Reds on August 14, 2009 to the Red Sox who he played for in 2006 as well. While with the Red Sox for the remainder of the 2009 season Gonzalez had a .284 batting average, and five home runs in 148 at bats for them.

It just totally boggles my mind why the Red Sox wouldn't resign him considering Short Stop has been a huge problem for the Red Sox through out the past few seasons. When Julio Lugo was with the team, he wasn't very productive and than with Jed Lowrie being injured than uninjured, the Sox don't have the stability they need at the position. They had a great amount of stability with Gonzalez, however now their back to square one.

Who do you all think the Red Sox should have at Short Stop, do you think they should have kept Gonzalez like I believe they should have? As a long time Red Sox fan, this problem at SS is getting tiring year in and year out.

I might regret to say this because Alex is one of my favorite venezuelan players, i am also from venezuela, but he really has had many injuries issues lately. That's why he did'nt shine in Red's uniform and I guess that's why they let him go back to sox too. Last year I just beginning to like the red sox team because they hire another good venezuelan player, Victor Martinez...but I think they made a good decision to replace Alex with Marco Scutaro who had a great season last year and is as good as alex at ss, and guess what? he is also from venezuela...!

I Think I am starting to become a Red Sox fan...hope they have a good season!

I know what your saying, but the Sox never keep the loyal players, it's all about the money and contracts, which is sad. They got rid of Jason Bay and almost Mike Lowell, if they got rid of Lowell, I'd probably not be watching baseball in 2010 but he'll play out his season on his contract with the Sox which makes me really happy since I'm a huge Lowell fan.
