I have read in an abstract on the net (http://www.sociology.org/content/vol005.001/smith-nomi.html with the question posted "Is Amae the key to understanding Japanese culture?" According to Wikipedia, "Amae is a Japanese word coined from the verb amaeru by Takeo Doi to serve as a noun, which he then used as a keyword to unlock analytically, the behavior of a person attempting to induce an authority figure such as a parent, spouse, teacher, or boss to take care of him." An example of amae is seen in the behavior according to Wikipedia is seen in the "behavior of the husband who comes home drunk and depends on his wife to get him ready to be bed." I have watched anime like Monster and Detective Conan and I have seen Amae as the very reason for the character's reasons for revenge, respect, and motivation. Is Amae still prevalent in Japan?I need someone to explain to me further about Amae because I am very interested to understand the Japanese culture. Thank you. Arigatou gozaimasu!
