Earlier I was playing Dragon Age: Origins with my friend Ryan and we got into an argument about what the best videogame genre was. I argued that the two best genres were RPGs like Dragon Age: Origins and first-person shooters like Halo or Call of Duty. Ryan said that the best genres were RPGs and Sports games. After a while we realized it was better to just agree to disagree. I just wanted to know what everyone else thinks...

My favorite and by far most played genre is RPG's. However, I would say in recent years the first person shooter has been catching up on my list of most played. My reason is because first person shooters are far more complex than they used to be. They have combined some elements of RPG's to create a better story line and gaming experience. For example, games like Halo and Mass Effect while being essentially shooters, are also games with rich story lines, and far more activity than just the mindless point, shoot, kill, repeat games of the past.

Well my personal favourites are the RPG genre in general, I don't particularly care if they're JRPG's like Final Fantasy or Western RPG's like The Elder Scrolls and Fallout. And secondly I like... SRPG's (strategy rpg, ie: Fire Emblem, Vandal Hearts, Final Fantasy Tactics). I don't care if they're turn based like tactics ogre, or active whatever like FFT... and I don't think I've ever seen an SRPG that plays in real time... but that would actually be pretty cool.
It's good you agree to disagree, because it's really all up to individual taste in the end. :p
