A sea adventure in my last vacations.

Our captain and the canoe. - The picture was taken by me when danger had passed and we were all smiling.

Hi friends, I usually don´t do a copy paste but I was answering a post here in mylot and I got carried away by the memories of one of the exciting adventures I had last January in my trip to Kunayala. I thought I would share it with you even if it had a lot of copy-paste.There it goes. Last January, some friends of mine invited me to a boat trip to Kunayala, at the caribbean part of Panamá. We had a big sailboat with 4 double cabins. One of them was all for myself. When we reached Kunayala, the natives came to our boat with their canoes carved from logs. They sold us fresh fish and lobsters. We made friends over a can of beer (our present as they are not allowed to drink alcoholic beverages except at special ocations so they crave for it and beg). They were going to the same place were were headed to (a bigger island) next day. They would start their trip before 6 AM as they only had their hands and arms to row. We started about 11 AM and in the middle of the trip a storm begun with high waves. We used the motor and lowered the sails . Suddenly we saw our friends, their boat filled with coconuts, rowing in the middle of the harsh sea. Our captain-friend stopped the motor and with a lot of difficulty their canoe was tied to our boat. Please imagine that the big cord had to be thrown against the wind with bare hands and the Kunas had to pick it up and tie themselves to it. I think they might have drowned if we hadn´t passed by their way. I think the Kuna indians took a very big chance but they don´t do it for pleasure but it is their way of living. I´m posting a picture I took after all had ended well. Can you tell us an adventure? I´m sort of proud of myself, an old 64 year old witch doing this kind of trips. Happy posting!

My friend (and his wife who is more like a sister to me) are incredible people. I have never seen people so generous and thoughtful. It was exciting and the moment was even scary. His cousin´s wife told my friend not to help as it could be dangerous for us. He replied that there was an unwritten law among seamen that they must help each other. And that was that. The captain is always right when you are on a ship.

People should apply the seaman's law in everything they do. It's good to help people on land or sea.

It is true, Jo. And I have the great honor of being a very close friend of this out of the world couple. They have done for my family and for many other people things noone generally does.

that sounds so exciting! And such a pretty place! The only ships/boats I've been on out in the "ocean" have been ferries taking me from one place to another. I've been to Victoria B.C. twice - that's a ferry over and back and then between Sandy Hook, New Jersey to Delaware... The first ferry we saw porpoises swimming along side - very cool! That would've been in 1973.

I saw dolphins and flying fish in this trip. I was awesome! I´m very happy that I can still have these experiences in life.
