Dogs out in the cold...

I live in an apartment complex and lately the temperature at night gets low like in the 40's. I walk my dogs and I am cold, and they are cold, even wearing sweaters! I always walk by this porch and there are two little dogs always stuck there barking. During the day and at night! It is very rare that I walk by and they are not outside. I understand some people don't want their pets inside during the day (though in Arizona, in the summer that can be cruelty), but it is freezing out and I peeked over the porch and they only had a towel bunched up on the ground for them. Now, if it was just a few times this happened I would just brush it off as they needed their dogs outside or whatever. But it is EVERY night. Do you think I should go ask them if they even want their dogs, or if they want me to find good homes for them or something? I don't want to be rude, but if my 5 lb dogs are shivering from just taking a walk, then I am sure their dogs are shivering all night long. I can't imagine what excuse they have for keeping them outside all of the time. If they don't have time for them then I don't know why they have them? It isn't like they are at least leaving them in a backyard to run around, they are trapped on a tiny porch (which is actually smaller than both of the porches I have at my apartment). Should I knock on their door and say something? What would you do? What would you say?

Yes, I think you should tell them to take their dogs out, because dogs are not suppose to live indoor. Dogs are outdoor animals, and cold doesn't hamper them. Even the small puppy's like chihuahua or terriers don't have any problems to go out in the cold. So tell them!

Did you not read what was written here at all?
The dogs are OUTSIDE- Freezing- and I don't know what planet you are on -but yes dogs
ESPECCIALLY small dogs and puppies do have a problem with cold weather..
I certainly hope you do not have any pets that you treat this way..
Dogs are not OUTDOOR animals. They are pets. Bred to be companions. Most (not all) of them bred to the standards we (humans) desire, no longer have the abilities to regulate body temperature to survive outside in frigid weather.. Like Chihuahuas etc..
Please do some reading on the care of dogs.. you will find what I say is true.

Nautilus I hope you do not have any Dogs or never get any as that attitude is wrong
Why do People not realise that these little Babies, big small whatever have feelings like we do , they feel the cold
Dogs are NOT Outdoor Animals, they are a Friend a Companion, by the way I have a little Chihuahua Cross and guess what ? He gets very cold outside
Never get a Dog

I do not understand why People get Dogs and keep them outside
To me my Dog and all my Dogs in the past are part of the Family so they are in the House winter summer night or Day
If People do not want Dogs in the House why get them and put the poor Things through this sort of thing
Yes I think you should say something to them as I know I would
I hope something gets done as I feel for those poor Dogs I really do and it hurts me to think of them out there in the freezing cold

I wonder that question myself. There are alot of people who get a dog, then put it out in yard and then they forget about it.I have a dog that I could never make him live outside,no matter what breed it is,I love the dog to live in the house.I treat my dog like a child,I bought him his own winter coat for when I walk him.He eats good and he sleeps with me.I love my dog.

i understand that situation and there are two dogs outside our house now and they scrathed themselves like a pile to keep warm but their owner do not care them at all. i think if those dogs are mine i will make a little dog house to make them warm and that's really pityful to see that.

I would tell them not to keep their pets outside the house on a cold night.poor dogs.imagine being left outside in the cold without anything but a towel.will you survive that?it looks to me that your neighbors neglect their pets.I would be brave enough to ask them if they are, because I would gladly take the dogs and take care of them.

I think you should call someone in your area, like maybe animal control, they'll do something about it.Those poor dogs must be freezing and should definately be in the warm indoors.I'd feel concern if I saw a situation like that.I don't like confrontations with people so,I would just call the proper authorities for the situation.I hope you solve the problem for the dogs.

Yeah you must go and shout on them as this is pure cruelty upon the dog , keeping pet dogs outside the home at night and day time is been cruel to them , you should just go to their place and knock the door and say hey what you think of yourself? what you think this dog is super dog or what who will protect itself from this cold and if you continued to keep it outside the house i will do a complaint against you at animal department for being cruel to your pet , if you can't take care of your dog then why you bought it? Hope they will realise their mistake.

Yes, I would do something -either call the dog warden, or if you feel comfortable asking them yourself. But you are right- it is cruel to leave a dog outside all night. What is the point of having pets if they don't even have the benefit of offering you their love and companionship, because they never see you?
I simply do not understand what is wrong with some people.
I have 4 large dogs and they don't stay outside. They live in the house and go out 3-4 times a day and run and play and wrestle in the back yard.. then they come in. Often I leave them out in the yard while they are playing and walk in the house to warm up... After a minute or two, they follow me (whether I want them to or not, lol..) they want to be where there humans are.
I bet those little guys do too- How horrible to live their short lives treated as someone unwanted junk to be stored on the front porch and forgotten about.
I definitely would do something...
