Why is that a "yawn" is a contagious one?

hmmm, one afternoon, I've seen a young man yawning in a public transportation. then, a few minutes later, i feel a bit tired and yawned too. then i've noticed that someone saw me yawning, then later on, that person yawns too? it's kinda weird but, i really think that it is a contagious feeling, where one yawns and others yawn too.. are you aware of it also? hehe happy holidays!

I have never figured that out. It just is something that happens I guess. Perhaps seeing someone yawn is an activity that subconscious makes a person sleepy. Just like dismal and dreary weather does for some people(including me). I doubt there is a logical answer, but it is an interesting little thing to think about.
