I have poor vision. To rectify it I were Spectacles. Recently I got Contact Lenses also. I were them both alternatively. Now can any one guide me what is better to wear, lenses or Specs, from all aspects. Main focus is safety to the eyes. Which would you guys suggest?

I think it is the contact lens. Because now a days so many people are wearing them and I do not find any difference. It is safe for the eyes provided we should follow all the safety measures given by the opthalmalogists

eye glasses - there are advantages of wearing eye glasses over that of contact lenses
Hi, esjosh. When my daughter was in the early years of her college studies, she was advised to wear eye glasses. She did and in the later years, didn't want to. She says that her classmates told her she looked older than her age. So, she requested that she, instead, wore contact lenses. We went to an eye doctor (who was a friend) and advised us that it is better to use eye glasses than contact lenses. I thought that was the end of the story. When she finished and passed the nursing course, I recommended that she replace her broken eye glasses, which, she said, she never wore anymore. She still is pursuing her request for contact lenses now ... I might see another eye doctor for another added opinion.

I wear daily disposable contact lenses. I put a pair on in the morning and throw them away just before I go to bed. My eyes feel moist and comfortable. The contact lenses give me excellent vision. Without my contact lenses I have poor vision and am short sighted. There is a difference in the vision I have. The left eye can't see much unless it is very close to me. My right eye has slightly better vision. Everything looks blurred when I don't have any contact lenses on. I have a pair of glasses to wear when I get up in the night time I use them. Contact lenses vary in comfort. When I first began wearing them I tried for 2 hours, then 4 hours, next 6 hours and finally 8 hours. That way my eyes got used to them. I once had a colleague that did get on well wearing contact lenses. Such a case is very unusual and his optician should have changed him to a different make of contact lenses. Both contact lenses and glasses are safe if kept clean. It is wise to have an eye test every one to two years to check the the prescription is the same as it used to be.

Find the most suitable eye wear for you and observe the effect and which do give you less time consuming and the proper eye correction. Contact lenses are good but when irritated, your eye directly gets irritated but if you wear eyeglasses, it may be bulgy for you but even in irritation problems, IT is minimized because it has double protection. The dirt will catch by the eye glass lenses before you eyes , it means it will not directly affect your eye. But, the decision is yours. Choose only one of them so you will have one focus only than choosing both..

Hi esjosh, we have the same predicament...let me tell you that it's been years that i've been battling against progressive near-sightedness in which I find hard to deal with. Every 3 months I have to routine eye check-ups and worst is I have to ocassionally change my spectacles. This is such a drag, and expensive in my part because I never have the capacity to place savings for my vision problems. But based from experience alone, it's better to use spectacles because contact lenses are still considered as foreign body that we put in our eyes. Although many claimed that they are safe for our eyes...sure I agree this is true. But many complications can be acquired from using such...especially corneal abrasions and eye irritations. Right now, I have an inflammation of the eye due to my excessive wear of contact lenses. My eye doctor suggested I should wear spectacles for a while becaus my eyes are dry. The only advantage I get from wearing contact lenses is they are aesthetically acceptable...and it will not make you look like a nerd or geek. If you opted to wear contact lenses, just make sure you take care of your unused contact lenses and be clean on handling them to prevent eye diseases. Hope I helped you there. Enjoy mylotting.

Hi, hapsicordable. I am glad to read such an informative comment. I am copying and saving this for my daughter to read. I am more inclined to her wearing eye glasses. But she says it is too cumbersome for her to do that. I seem to understand that she likes contact lenses for aesthetic purposes.. She is 20 years old.
