Googling people online, is it good or bad? |
| |
| I absolutely agree how much the internet technology had improved over time. We can do literally majority of activities online. Such as instant message to our friends; send photos or share comments online, or even try to connect distant friends. In the recent years. people like to "google" other people, or in the name of long lost friend, such as in mylife.com, people can dig out their lost high school friends. Is it good or bad? When people "google" another person, there is privacy issue involved. People might be able to access public information, to get people's address, phone number, sometimes, even social security number. Just imagine, your personal information, or you privacy is invaded at this point. So, besides convenience, do you think "googling" people will be a good or bad aspect? | | | | | |

| | There is no privacy issue involved. The information is public. Address and phone-number can be found in a phone book. Or online versions of phone books, so there's absolutely zero privacy invasion going on in that regard. Now if a person is stupid enough to post their social insurance/security number somewhere the google search engine reads. Well... enjoy the identity theft. Seriously there's absolutely no reason you'd need, or want to post that anywhere. Heck the only reason to be posting it online anyway is because you're at a government website filling out some sort of form. That information isn't read or returned by google. That information isn't public in just the same way googling your user name doesn't return your password or security questions. | | | | | | |

| | I think Googling people can be a good thing or bad thing. I mean if you have lost contact with your friend or family member it could be a good thing to use to get back in touch with them. I also think that by Google could be used by some shady people in the pursuit of no good. I think that stalkers and internet predators can use it to their advantage said to say. I still say that people need to be more careful what information they put on the internet, because you never know who can access it and use it. | | | | | | |

| | I think it depends upon the motives of th person. if it's only pure curiosity, then I dont see anything wrong with googling another person. i do that often actually. hehehe. If the person ha some bad intentions or would use the details he or she would be getting about the other person, then it's surely a bad thing. There are a lot of identity thefts out there so let's be careful. ANyway, we can always control how much information we want to share online. We can always keep our profiles private to limit people who can access them :D | | | | | | |

| | I think that "googling" people would be a bad aspect because of stalkers and people that might want to harm you. Overall it's better to remain anonymous online and just maintain contact with people you want to maintain contact with in real life. I never put my address, phone, or anything personal online. Have you ever heard of identity theft? That's a big issue as well. | | | | | | |

| | Hi clorissa It may not be too bad as long as the personal stuff isn't disclosed. You know like the social security number. Like the first response that you got about his dad finding him, now that is a good reason but not all are good. Really Im not sure if it is good or bad. | | | | | | |

| | I think its not bad! Google and others are working more to protect the privacy of people and this is just getting better and better, so nothing to worry about. We can find our friends, mates, etc. But we should not be glued to an unknown guy or some take him/her to be a soul mate unless you seen him in person. I heard that many people committed suicide when they saw the people they imagined like this..like that. | | | | | | |
