Hi ravi, Avatar is definitely a Sanskrit origin word. English is a rich language because of some reasons. It accepts new words daily from other languages. If you open any dictionary, you will identify many words which origin was from other languages. Remember the recent word Jai ho, coming from a Hindi cinema. Good day.

Avtar is a sanskrit word. it means that god has come to the world as a human. that human body is called avtar of god. like lord krishna was avatar of lord Vishnu, Rama was avatar of lord Vishnu. Like these a lot of avatars are there in hindi mythology. i think people from outside India, banglades, nepal, and pakistan don't know too much about hindi mythology. if you would like to ask more then ask us. i will tell you in detail about avatar of lord Krishan and Rama. happy mylotting

Ya avatar is sure a hindi/sanskrit word. The avatar in hindi means a character or a new kind. If you can remember, the web culture, started developing the identity for each member in a forum, they used to call it an avatar! This was there even some 5 or 6 years ago. Everybody use to put a picture in their id, and make it as there identity over the forum. May be this is where the film title has been got from.
