Have you ever fixed a special dish and hoped it would turn out well?

I recall the first time I fixed beef stoganoff. It was for my boyfiend at the time. I fixed it with his friends girlfriend. I had just met her and it was sort of weird trying to work in harmony with someone I had never met. I was nervous about making it all just right and working with someone I didn't know didn't help much. It worked out well and even the fruit salad I fixed to go with it turned out well. I also recall fixing Thanksgiving dinner for my grandmother, mom and daughter for the first time all by myself one year. I was so used to my grandmother or mom cooking that it was very different for me to do it all by myself. Do you recall such a time when you fix a dinner for certain people for the first time? Who for and how did it turn out?

I remember cooking Chicken and Noodles one year because I was hungry. It wasn't a holiday, but I remember having my grandmother try it, and I think other people ate it as well. There was another time I experimented with making chicken and dumplings and they came out great as well!
I am still by no means a cook, lol, so I suppose those two times just went off without a hitch! My husband and I are learning how to cook now.

It sounds like you are a better cook than you thought you were.

Well they definitely didn't hurl to my knowledge, and neither did I. Lol, I don't like to say I am really great at anything, but I will admit that cooking is not my forte.

I made lasagna for the time for my boyfriend and his friend I was 20 years old it came out really well. I was surprised as I certainly was not a very good cook. I was also very nervous but they loved it and asked for seconds.

I think that is a good hint- When they ask for seconds!

I'm not a chef at all and I'll only try things that are pretty simple. One year I made a delicious dessert. It was ice cream spread out on a Pyrex dish, then you could pour caramel on top and then sprinkle either peanuts or slivered almonds on it. I made it in hopes that my family would like it and they loved it. I never made it again though because there are far better cooks in my family that ice cream makers.

I haven't had any complaints. I have several personal recipes that my kids seem to like too.
