Is it okay to be friend with my boss?

i think it's healthy that bosses should be friends with their subordinates up to a certain extent. My boss is also very friendly but it's always important to draw a line between friendship and your boss-subordinate relationship however that line maybe. Business should be run as a business and bosses need to be tough if needed to their employees, it is one way of instilling discipline while friendship is way of motivating them. Because when you are too friendly, there are employees who will take advantage of you. But this is the job of the boss, unfortunately there are bosses who are too egocentric and they want you to kiss a*ss all the time. And i know one . Cheers!

Having a good relationship with your boss is good for it brings harmonious relationship. Likewise, all bad impressions may be removed because she was give the chance to prove herself. I think there is nothing wrong being friendly with your boss. As long you know your limits, and moral values. If the intentions are good then there should be doubt about getting friendly with her. Just do not forget to be a professional person,meaning, you know where to stop and limit yourself. If you are having this, then respect is attainable as a person.

so you are really lucky that you have such a good boss.ofcourse you can friend with this nice boss but never forget to show your repect to your boss since she still pay you salary and she deserve that also.i'd wish i can beocome a boss like her later since i do not think i can find any boss like this nice woman at all.

..Hi Fyulltank, I think I am with you. She is your boss, there should be boundaries because of this relationship. If you did something thinking that it was appropriate because you had this "friendship" and she didn't, then you have created unnecessary tension which you don't need on yourjob.You want to do yourwork, get paid,go home and forget the job. Keep it formal without the familiarity which they say breeds what? Take care.

Well, you're fortunate to have a good boss. Most of them are evil people who live to make their subordinates unhappy I think you should consider if you want to have a doble relationship with your boss, inside and outside work. Usually I prefer not to mix those things, so if you choose to be friends, you can be friendly outside work and a worker inside the office.

I think it is a tough situation to be in, but I say follor your heart. I used to work for a very similar person and I actually felt bad for her at times because she was friends with all her employees and yet had to repremand them at times. I personally don't think there is anything wrong with being close friends, only know that it may cause complications. But if you decide to keep your distance, then I would understand that too.

I think it is wonderful to be friends with your boss. I think it makes the work relationship less intimidating, and more of a partnership that you two are friends on the outside of work, but working together in your business to keep it strong and functional. You should feel happy that you have such a nice boss, and also such a nice friend. Embrace your luck!

hello fulltank! all i can say is that you are lucky to have such kind of boss! i think its okay to be friends with them to that extent, but just keep on mind that when it comes to work place, you should still pay the respect due for her and as a professional, i think you should separate your personal relation (friendship)to her and your professional relation to her... i think to be friends with our boss is a good thing for it creates good & happy working environment & relationship to each other...but we must know our limits! have a good day! happy holidays!

i think that it is not easy to be friend with my boss.because of difference from the identity and status,so i find that there is different views between them and us.we could not easy comunicate with them.

That's great to know that you have such a wonderful boss, especially who's a woman! To be friends you should have more in common except for the works I think. Like hobby, interests etc. If you're a male, then don't mess up in emtional affairs with your lady boss, they would be no restriction in the friendship between you two.
