take their tickets to the cashier to check their numbers? You can check them online, even scratch offs. If you dont have a computer, you can get the numbers on tv or a newspaper or go to the library and use a computer. Ok if you take the ticket to the counter and they say "not a winner" ask for your ticket back. One way to avoid theft is WRITE your name on the ticket before going to the store. They wont be able to cash it then!

Hiya sergeantrom, Suppose it´s because they think it´s the right thing to do. Maybe they don´t trust the results that are on the Television or Online. Good idea that to write your name on it on the Lottery Ticket I mean but what if you won would that alter your chances if the Ticket has your name on it? Yesterday in Spain was the "El Gordo" Christmas Lottery and you could see People all over the place checking their Lottery in Papers, in the Lottery Administrations the lot. Most of the Money went to Madrid though.

The lottery board tells people to write their name on the ticket. They even put a place on the back of the ticket to write your name. Think about it. Millions of dollars. Not trust tv? Hey if you cant trust everything you see on tv, who can you trust? Seriously, you take your chances with a cashier whom you dont know than the oficial lottery site that has to tell the whole world the winning numbers????

Hiya sergeantrom, Not sure if that can be done in this Country if it is´nt done it should be. There have been many cases of that kind of lottery fraud here too loads of it in fact. Now it gets a prison sentence if you get caught committing the crime. Before that anyone could get away with it. Laws are tightening up here at long last.

That's a good ideal. Thanks! I saw on the news someone won on a lottery ticket and the cashier told him or her that they were not a winner and ha!ha! they got caught doing it! That is so terrible!

I saw that news too and thats what made me think of this post. They had a special on tv and only one honest cashier told the truth. If I were the cashier I would be honest but its sooo tempting. I dont understand why they lie, they have cameras in the stores now. Not to mention, if they are employee of the store, they have to show when and how they BOUGHT the winning ticket.
