For the knowin', when Liz goes off to pet-sit often times the clients buy her her own groceries to use while there, rather than having her forage thru their stash..And when she comes home they usually let her bring home what she doesn't use while there.
Mostly, they ask her what she'd like to have and pretty well stick with the list but sometimes, as with a recent job, she gets gifted with delicasies we can't afford. In this case it was two flank steaks, a little over 1 pound, $16.99 pound!!
Please excuse me for being naive, but $17 lb?!..
Back on the farm in Ohio we raised black angus (yes, the one they make the fuss over now!). There were 11 cows and one bull and every year one would meet with an untimely end. The good news for us was a freezer full of meat..And when it was divided there was a simple system. The tongue (lovely on crackers), the internal organs, the oxtail, the hamburger, the brisket..and the MEAT.
I imagine I've had a goodly amount of FINE CUTS whilst I was growing up but naively placating my hunger, I never realized this. As I said, it was just meat.
Its still just meat to me..something to be served with potatoes or slapped between two pieces of bread (did I hear a gasp?) with mayo (there it is again!) and maybe topped with cheese (oh, someone's fainted!). Its not something one hires a Brinks truck for, either for paying or delivering.
Just to say so, it tasted like a little bitty chuck roast and had too much gristle..
What about you folks..hmm..? What was the most ridiculously priced thing you've ever eaten? Did you buy it or were you gifted?
Enjoy your holidays!

Hiya greenfeathers,
I have never eaten this kind of thing as it gives me a headache I really don´t eat a lot of meat.
What I mean to say is my appetite for meat is not very big.
The most ludicrously priced thing in Spain is usually for Fish they are crazy about Fish here.
The price of those eel like things the real ones is so expensive and way out that I reckon anyone who buys this kind of thing is someone who really does not appreciate the real value of Money. I have just about been able to afford two Chickens and I thank God for that. One for yesterday and one for today and I make it go further using my habitual common sense.
Don´t feel bad for eating something like that it´s just a one off whereas a lot of people can afford that everyday and I´m pretty sure they never give it another thought.
Enjoy yourself greenfeathers don´t feel bad about little things like that.
Hugs. Sue.xxx

Its not whether one can aford it or not. $17 for an at home meal is downright impractical. I could go our usual fare, and eat for a week on that! But I guess some folks just gotta strut their own way..I'll leave it at that..
Enjoy your holiday and all the wonderful that flows in its wake!

Hiya greenfeathers,
Thanks I will. I am just getting over watching The Four Tenors "Il Divo" till half past three this Morning now I feel much better.
But it was really nice watching them as I´ve never seen them perform before.
Although it is expensive for one meal I know what you mean as you can go a way with 17 Dollars for other things instead but there again a one off does´nt hurt anyone.
Enjoy your Christmas Dinner everyone.
Hugs. Sue.xxx
