What do you do when your neighbor that is a very good friend gets a new dog that barks incessantly? I don't want to hurt the friendship by calling the police, yet I don't know how many more days I can bear to be up all night because of the dogs constant barking. This is a new dog for the neighbor and I thought perhaps the dog was just not used to the surroundings. However, this has been going on now for 2 weeks. Help. What you you smart Lot people do?

Have you discussed with your neighbor the feelings you have towards the dogs constant barking? Do they even know that it is going on? If they are out and the dog is barking then it may be that they are unaware of the situation. Try working with the neighbor before call the police. Only use a call to the police as a last resort or otherwise you will just be creating more problems than a barking dog.

This dog barks day and night the neighbor has to know the dog is barking. I just don't know how to talk to the neighbor about it without as you say, creating more problems. My hope is some other neighbor will do or say something or the barking will finally drive the neighbor crazy. No calls to the authorities so far. Thanks for responding. What do you think of those devices that gives the dog a shock every time it barks?

Funny you should ask about the no bark collars. I used to work in a pet store and will say that they work well if they are installed correctly. They take some training on behalf of the owner to make sure that they are working correctly but will discourage the barking behavoir. As for approaching the neighbor try something neighborly. Take a treat down for the dog and say something like. " I see/hear you have a new dog. What has had him/her so stirred up here lately?" You need to let them know that you do not have anything against the dog but that the barking is loud enough for you to hear it inside your home.

I can't help with a neighbor's dog, but i know when i moved in a new place my dog wasn't use to being left alone, while i went to school, i got a couple complaints about her barking, so i had to come up with some solutions for her, one, was puttin a muzzle on her, keeping her contained to my bedroom, and making sure she could see out the window to watch for when i came home, it took a while, but now she dont make a peep when i'm gone. If the neighbor is a friend you might wanna just bring it up to them, and give them some ideas of how to contain the barking. Also i got a cat to keep my dog company lol
