| For almost 2 months I have been struggling to lose weight. I've set a goal, slow and steady, aim to reach it in the summer. I started my quest on diet pills, diet shakes, vitamins and changing my diet completely. The shakes and pills made me weak, I slowly realized that I couldn't mix the two together. I haven't touched either in more than a month, I've been advised to stay away from it as none of it works. This comes from real people who are going through weight loss, thousands of people to be exact. Online since 2000, SparkPeople.com has helped many people reach their weight loss goals through fitness tracking, food tracking, support, blogs, forums, and hundreds of informative emails. I joined the site on November 18th this year, with the goal in mind to do what was right for myself. I set my weight loss goal; to lose 72lbs, and the site showed me how long it would take to safely do this. My graph showed that if done right, this goal would be achieved in June of next year. I set up my fitness goals, how much cardio to do daily(I get more than I set with my Nintendo Wii system), set my walking mileage(I have a dog, so walking isn't a problem anymore), and entered in other goals as well. Now I write blogs on that site on my page, and people will comment, provide feedback and motivation to keep me going. They offer plenty of advice and are constructive, not negative. I had a slip earlier this month where I really needed motivation to get me back on track, and they were there for me. They helped me get back on track so I could keep trying to lose weight. On Boxing day, I braved the elements(it was raining), to line up outside Best Buy at 5am to try to get a Wii system for $30 off the normal price. Well, after almost 2 hours in line, and finally getting one in my hands, to my dismay, I was told I couldn't have it. I didn't have the special ticket needed to pick it up. That really pissed me off, and I showed my rage and stormed out of the store. 2 bloody hours and getting soaked to the bone for nothing. So, I got back in the car, and went to Walmart and there was nothing. Went to Zellers, again, nothing. Went to a Futureshop, they had just sold out. So, one final try was the Futureshop close to home, and low and behold, they had a pile of them. I still had to pay full price, but the system came with a bonus game worth $20 so it was worth it. I got home and went back to bed. When I got up, I set up the system and started to play the Wii Sports. I used it so much that I was crazy sore the next day, and couldn't use it for another 2 days. Now I know my limits, and I don't play as long as I did. I have an active job and can't be sore when I am working, it will slow me down. So, this along with diet and my active job, should help me reach my goal, hopefully sooner than hoped, but one never knows. So far, I have lost 9lbs since starting the diet, 7lbs since joining Sparkpeople. The loss is slow, but you never want to rush something like this as it could become dangerous. I end now with my blog entry on Sparkpeople for December 30th, my New Years Goals: 2009 is fast coming to an end, and I've little to show for it. Well, except for a 9lb weight loss. Not bad considering I only started on November 1st. People make new years resolutions and hardly ever stick to them, myself included, but instead, it's better, I think, to make goals instead. So my goals for 2010 are: 1. Lose up to 10lbs each month through proper diet and exercise. -This should be easily achieved thanks to my new Nintento Wii. 2. Drink at least 2 bottles of water a day. - This is half of the 8 glasses a day I had originally set for myself, but I can do it while working out, and it will be far easier in the summer when I'm actively working. 3. In addition to my Wii workouts, walk more daily, weather permitting. - Having a dog makes this more possible, but I need to be logging my walks, which I have slipped up on lately. 4. Only weigh in once per week. - This should be common place for me, but I have been known to sneak in a check mid week, or even a few times a week. This negatively impacts the progress when a higher weight is seen on the scale. 5. Remember that it's one step forward and two steps back. - This is the way life in general goes and there's nothing wrong with it as long as you deal with it properly. Deal with it the wrong way and it will backfire on you. Here's looking forward to a bright, new year. Weight at this time: 175lbs. Starting weight: 182lbs- November 18th, 2009. Starting weight prior to this site: 184lbs- November 1st, 2009. |
