I was going to start looking for a new desktop computer in the near future and was curious what you would say would be about an average price for one that is between Ok and good. With better then just RAM, a decent graphics card and at least a dual-core processor. Oh, and one with lots of room for potential upgrades.
Also in addition to the computer, what would you say an ok monitor that isn't too big costs nowadays?
Thanks to anyone that helps!

The market is very competitive right now with the economy the way it is. I'm thinking a person could get a great deal on a computer right now. I just bought a laptop a few month ago that is packed for $480. I can do anything on this laptop and have plenty of space left. As far as a desktop goes, this guy I know that runs a computer shop gets new stuff in to sell as well as his used stuff and he said he could sell me a monster desktop for $380 right now. I don't know how that compares with say Dell or HP and I don't know what namebrand it was because I was wanting a laptop when I called him. I think buying a monitor that comes with the desktop is a better bargain than buying it seperate. I don't know that for a fact though. Take care.

Most desktops range from about four to six hunderded. They of course come complete with a decent-sized monitor, lot cheeper then buying one. Desktops come with the nice flatscreans and those come in range of sizes which cuts down on desk space. I remember units that used to be so bolky it was redicilous.

i think the price varies on every location. in my case since i know how to assemble a pc, i consider some brands in every hardware i.e. processor-intel, motherboard-asus, memory-kingston, v.card- nvidia, hard drive- seagate, keyboard/mouse/cam- a4tech, monitor- samsung. i've been using the same brand for a long time and it never give me immediate problem. good day louiewphs04

Hi there Louie. Well you can buy a good performance computer with about 550 $. This is the sum i paid last in february 2009 if i remember correctly and i got an AMD 5600+ (dual processor of course), with 2 Giga DDRam 2 and a Video Card Nvidia 9600GT with 512 mega which is more than enough for any game that exists now or will be in the next couple of years.
Well talking about a monitor we bought one in December and i was lucky to find an old stock of those 4/3 monitors from LG - we don't really like the wide screen ones and we bought it for 135$. The wide screen ones cost about 160 $ minimum.
But i have to mention that all this prices are for Romania and in your country it is more likely that they will be different.
Happy New Year and hope this helped.

You could get a mini laptop/note book at walmart for under $400 dollars it has windows 7 starter edition with entel atom processor I think it cost roughly $348 at walmarts online store, though prices may very depending where you live, so I sugest you check it out for yourself just to be sure though in my opion the prices seem much cheaper when you go inside the stores, but thats just my opion.

Hi. For me, it is difficult when you want to discuss about computer price globally. For example, computers and its part prices are different for each country. Some can be very expensive and some can be very cheap. In my country, there are few computer manufacturer like DELL that open it factory operation here. So the price will be a bit cheaper compared to my neighbour country. My tip for buying computer is, go for original parts and software cause you won't regret it..:
