Upgrading to dual core, quad core, i3, i5 or i7?  |

|  I am planning to upgrade my desktop PC. I need on advise on the most cost effective setup basically for just home-based work and for media hobbies, i.e. movies and photos.

| |  You will be comfortable with a dual core solution.It will be the cheapest but it will handle all you stated needs and more.
but if you plan to use the system for long like 2-3 years you will be better off with an i3. The era of core 2 duo is ending and core i platform will rule, so in future if ur c2d pc got some problem and needs to replace something it may be costlier then than buying an i3 now..
So go for i3 if you want to futureproof your PC..but a C2D can do the job just fine..

| |  intel procie are very expensive...i have a AMD phenom II X4 and is working real fine..i havent had a problem since i shifted from intel to AMD...

| | if its a budget processor you need then go for the dual core.
dual core and core 2 duo are different. make sure you dont confuse with each other
id say buy the dual core or you can go for the amd 64 series too.
