| Help me to buy a laptop  | | | |  I'm going to buy a new laptop possibly a dell or toshiba,but the problem is that i want to dual boot it both ubuntu and windows .I'm worried about the configuration; how i know if it support linux or not. Dell has a new lap inspiron 14 with ubuntu but i don't know if it supports windows..
and i prefer one with no preinstalled os.I tried from dell's site to configure my laptop but i can only upgrade from there ex.,no option for 'no os' and i can't choose 'no security features' i can only upgrade 1 months security 6 months n like that.So now i'm thinking of inspiron 15 series Do anyone has experience with that is it supports ubuntu?

If I was in your situation, I would just get some dell which is capable of win OS, usually Ubuntu works on any machine. The only problems that I've had with it were on my Asus EEE mini laptop. It was a little bit tricky with the wi-fi. And there is always an option to try ubuntu on a virtual machine first, in that case you know what you may face with. I don't know if this post helped in any way, but that's what I think and would do. :)

| | My suggestion is use vmware workstation or server for the other operating system to be used.Now a days every body is preferring vmware instead of dual boot if the laptop or system is having high configuration suchas more than 1gb ram and core to duo processor.Every laptop is suitable for windows. | | | | | | |

| |  Hi xe20mx,, dont worry about this Ubuntu and Windows issue.
If you check Ubuntu minimum requirement, then it can be run even on Pentium-3 processor with 128MB of RAM.
And for Windows,, XP can be installed in Pentium-3 processor with 128MB RAM and Windows 7 requires Pentium-4 and min 1GB RAM to run Windows 7 without any problem.
So this Ubuntu and Windows problem is out not a big issue on same laptop.Its very easy to dual boot a system.
So just check it configuration and if it is equal or more than the min. configuration that i've mentioned, then it can surely run these operaing system.
And as far as security is concerned, download any freeware anti-virus from internet and enjoy its facility.
Or you can download any cracked version of good paid anti-virus if dont want to pay for its subscription.
