Do you think even if you don't know the language you can understand people? |
| |
| Hi all, So, here what I feel. I believe and love to learn about new cultures and languages. But sometimes I feel that we human being surpass the need of language. We can communicate basic expression without a language. Like my mom. I will elaborate it for you guys. I have just posted a new discussion on watching cookery shows and hunger. I feel hungry when I watch these shows and thanks to my mom that she prepares after learning those recipes. Actually, she doesn't know English. But without my help she understand and prepare out of her knowledge. Amazingly, she prepares that very well. So, guys do you think that sometimes language is not all you need to get the idea or understanding? Share if you have experienced this in your life? | | | | | |

| | Expressions and music never needed any language to interpret the soul in them. | | | | | | |

| | Yes, I think so. I have also come across situations like that, and I figure out from their gestures and facial expressions what they are trying to say. I was in a foreign country then, where not so many people can speak English which would've been a common second language to us. But still, we communicate more effectively by speaking. | | | | | | |

| | True, You should visit India, its a country of more than 50 languages. I have not counted the dialects and accents people use. But still people understand eachother very well. Even people from different countries don't face any issues. We are launguage lovers. Being from some other country you will have a great time during that experience. | | | |

| | Yes, commnication can be both verbal and non-verbal. We can understand and communicate what we want when it comes to basic and simple things just by using gestures and other forms of non-verbal communication but it can never replace the function of language in terms of communicating deeper thoughts and ideas. Ideas need to be clothed with words in order to be communicated and reciprocated meaningfully. | | | | | | |

| | Yes I surely accept the fact that to understand people it is not necessary to know the language, and it is really great of you mom who does so much for you. This shows no barrier can stop love and affection shown by mankind towards each other. | | | | | | |

| | I believe that even if you are unable to speak the language you will be able to somewhat understand each other. i believe facial expressions are the key to any language. I work in a setting where my language is English, but a lot of Spanish only speakers use the facility. I do not know much Spanish, but am able to communicate with them through facial expressions and pointing out what I may be trying to say. I do not think that speaking is the only way to communicate with others. | | | | | | |
